Falken Wildpeak A/T A/T3WA

The Falken WILDPEAK A/T AT3WA is an all-season 4x4 tire engineered for versatile performance across all terrains and weather conditions. It features an optimized tread pattern with a center rib in zig-zag design and ribbed shoulder grooves, creating additional angles and edges that improve traction both on and off-road while enhancing grip in mud and harsh weather. Developed using 4D-Nano Design technology with a silica tread compound, it offers even wear characteristics, excellent snow traction, wet performance, and self-cleaning properties in all grooves. Available in 45 sizes from 15-22 inches with EU label ratings of C-E for fuel efficiency, B-D for wet grip, and B for noise (70-75dB), the tire carries both M+S and winter capability designations.

Methodology & Configuration
Scoring Process
  1. Collect Test Data: Gather results from professional tire tests across multiple publications. Minimum 1 test(s) required.
  2. Normalize Positions: Convert test positions to percentile scores using exponential weighting (factor: 1.2).
  3. Apply Recency Weighting: More recent tests are weighted higher with a decay rate of 0.95.
  4. Incorporate User Reviews: Factor in user review data (minimum 5 reviews). Weight: 15%.
  5. Bayesian Smoothing: Apply Bayesian prior (score: 7, weight: 1.5) to prevent extreme scores with limited data.
  6. Calculate Final Score: Combine all components using normalization factor of 1.1. Max score with limited data: 9.5.

The Falken Wildpeak A/T AT3WA is the most balanced tire in the test. Although it has the shallowest tread depth when new, this doesn't negatively impact its aquaplaning characteristics. In fact, it performs well in all disciplines and, with the exception of the gravel traction test, is always at least in the upper midfield. The Falken shows no real weaknesses and is even the best tire on wet surfaces.

Initial Impressions Review
Given 78% while driving a Volvo V90 D4 (235/55 R18) on mostly country roads for 30,000 spirited miles
I have covered 30,000 miles on these tires and I have ordered a new set of the same tires to replace them with as the tread depth is now down to 5mm which is where winter and wet road performance declines. They would be road legal for another 10-15k miles. They have performed well across deep snow, motorways, gravel and rough tracks. Used in temperatures from -18c to 30+

Given 94% while driving a Kia Motors Sportage 2 (215/65 R16) on mostly country roads for 10,000 easy going miles
The Falken Wildpeak A/T3WA is a great allround tire in all types of terrain and season. Only negative point is the weight, I think is to heavy for a cross-over :(
