Best Tires for the Mercedes Benz CL500

I drive different cars every day and am an automotive expert. These tires are very good. I have the opportunity to compare them in the same conditions with other similar ones and I say that the tires are great. They are much more stable after 50% wear compared to many other premium brands.

I got 7500km out of the set on the rear of the car. The tires run on a hot surface in Spain and the grip levels are very good even considering the slippery nature of Spanish roads in the dry. They also held onto grip fairly well in the wet. I would buy these tires again if they didn't wear so damn fast! Handling was good with good feedback, the tires are quite noisy. It's a shame as I really liked the tires but at 300 EUR a corner on my car I cannot justify chewing through them so quickly. I'm no boy racer but enjoy a spirited drive from time to time however most of their life has been motorway driving. As soon as they start approach the wear limit they are lethal and all confidence disappears especially in a near 2 ton car.

Tires installed on rear were very unstable and would not track well in the rear. The car was wobbling and un-safe. The mercedes shop could not find anything wrong with the car after 3 hours of checking and test driving. And looking for suspension or steering issues. It was recommended that i change the tires to see what happens . Had to finally replace the tires with P-Zeros which instantly changed the behavior of the car and made it stable as before the The Radar R8plus Very very disappointed - these do not work for luxury performance cars. I checked and others have had similar experiences on A7. I would never buy again. I am returning them and hope they don't give me the runaround.

Dry grip excellent. Wet grip possibly excellent, but always felt slightly nervous at high speed in the wet on motorways on low-profile rear tires. Wear rate appalling: 8,560 miles on rear tires, compared with 15,000 on Dunlop SP01s, 12,000 on Dunlop SportMaxx, and 18,500 on Dunlop SP9000. Same car, same driving style

Acelera PH1 2 on rear tires only ( note GY Eagle F1 Asy 3 on front axle ).
As a tire snob I only bought these 275/40 R19 105Y due to 2 bad sidewall punctures ... all they had in my size stranded out in the sticks!
On the face of it ... not a usual choice for an S class coupe with a reasonably powerful 5.5L V8 engine with the 7G Plus gearbox.
0-60 in 5 secs. So in fairness they didnt really stand a chance.
On the positive side they are quiet, and at UK legal speeds, pottering around they are "superficially" surprisingly good.
For A low powered shopping trolley they might be OK in the dry.

What I dont like is the lack of "feel", and if pushed a little in the wet on a long bend ... the back can be made to drift out unnervingly easily.
The main flaw is in the wet; even accelerating relatively briskly will result in the back snaking side to side. I assume this is simple the tires being unable to handle the power ( despite lord knows how many technologies such as ESP, Traction Control, LSD etc. )
I dont have the guts to try the flat out "Launch" mode. But I am convinced it would result in the car remaining stationery and the rear tires smoking like hell!
These are just not suitable for a performance car.
My main concern would be .. if one can get the back to snake so easily in the wet; does it follow that if you had to do an emergency brake in the wet, would they lose grip equally quickly?? I think so.
For this reason I would never buy tires like these again ... and as soon as Goodyear make my tire size in the Asymmetric 3 I will change them !
As they say its not how you drive but what others will do!
Even if I drive extremely cautiously .... if someone just instantly comes out in front of you ... I wouldnt like to rely on these in the wet.

Mercedes are notoriously poor performers in cold weather conditions, I was introduced to this tire eight years ago and after speaking with Vredestein tech boys, decided to run them all year. What a move! The tire is a real performer all year, solid in the rain and when there's snow on the ground, you wouldn't know it, I have a reasonable incline on my driveway which, without these tires, I cannot climb without totally clearing. My wife has an E320 Estate which are also fitted with Wintrac Extreme's and again drives like a front wheel drive in the winter. If there is a downside, I wouldnt give it the full monty (ie.5.5l full throttle on the bends) in summer time, so as long as you're not a boy racer, and want a Merc to have grip in the winter, fantastic tire!!!!
