Michelin Pilot Sport 3 PS3 Reviews - Page 18

Given 86% while driving a Subaru MY07 Impreza WRX 2.5L (225/45 R17) on a combination of roads for 18,000 spirited miles
Driven around 30k kilometres rotated thrice at 8k kilometres each time. Grips well at high speed cornering. Wanted to rotate at 32k kilometres but tires deem not safe for further driving. Generally brakes with high confidence level, no feeling of skidding. Only downside will be poor lifespan, other than that highly recommended.

Given 79% while driving a Honda Accord Tourer Type S (225/45 R17 W) on a combination of roads for 17,000 spirited miles
The Pilot Sport 3 tires are excellent in every way but I had hoped they would last longer than 17,000 miles. The grooves around the circumference of the tire are wide so there is less rubber then on some tires. I guess that's what gives the grip. I often have the car loaded up with windsurfing equipment and it still has excellent handling and cornering. Unsurprisingly they were not so good in the snow and very difficult indeed to get going without spinning. However, once moving they weren't bad. Overall a very good, safe tire at speed on all kinds of roads.

Given 100% while driving a Peugeot 307 (225/45 R17) on a combination of roads for 280,000 spirited miles
To be honest, I find it hard to objectively say whether these handle or grip or whatever better than other tires, as I'm still only on my second car, but I can say a pair of these just managed 28,000 miles with me. They aren't cheap, but that's some good milage right there, I think.

Given 87% while driving a Audi TT (225/40 R18) on a combination of roads for 8,000 spirited miles
Class Class Class, simple as that. Ive so far done 8000 miles in them and it looks like the tread is still brand new. Brilliant!

Given 74% while driving a Skoda Octavia vRS (225/40 R18 W) on a combination of roads for 16,000 average miles
Replaced Original Equipment Dunlop Sport Maxx ( 18500 miles after 1 rotation of set ) with a set of 4 PS3'S late last year. Having had Exalto and PS2'S on previous cars I decided to go for the PS3 as I knew the previous Michelins had lasted and performed well. Suffered a tire bulge just over 1000 miles and had to replace front o/s. Michelin after much discussion decided to send a free replacement without acknowledging fault. Fair enough. Well done Michelin - Eventually. Back to the performance and the tires squirmed a little in the wet under acceleration and through shallow standing water on several occasions causing a bit of a surprise to both drivers of the car. Towards the end of their service aquaplaning was quite evident on shallow standing water and at 2/2.5mm decided to change for obvious safety reasons. I now have one new ( replacement from Michelin ) ps3 and one new Goodyear Eagle Asymmetric 2 on the front so I will be VERY interested to see how they perform against each other. Treadwear on ps3 is 320 against Goodyears 300. Front ps3's lasted 16000 miles approx before changing due to wet weather concerns, I do understand performance rapidly drops after less than 3mm but I have never noticed this being so obvious in any other previous Michelin tire I have had. Rears are doing fine with about 6mm after 16000 miles. Garage advised best tires on front ( new ones ) due to how good the condition of the rear Michelins were. Dry grip fantastic, good feedback, progressiveness good although never tested to the limit due to the style of driving. Tires quiet. Buy again reflects Michelins response to the bulge issue and the wet weather concerns encountered.

Given 86% while driving a Honda Civic 1.8 VTEC Sport (225/45 R17) on a combination of roads for 16,000 average miles
Previously I had the PS2 and I found those better in the dry but worse in the rain. The PS3 gives less road feedback than the PS2 probaply because it's more finetuned for comfort. Yet in the wet the PS3 is much grippier than the PS2. When driving in the sometimes heavy rain these tires give me much confidence. For wet weather they are by far the best tires I've ever had. So far I've driven 16000 miles with them and the wear is hard to notice. I am very happy with these tires, just the road feedback needs some improvement.

Given 69% while driving a Audi A4 Avant 2.0T Quattro (225/45 R17) on a combination of roads for 15,000 spirited miles
Grip in wet and dry conditions was great. A tad noisy on some roads, especially on the motorway when the engine is generally quieter. The only thing that let me down on these tires was the wear - I got about 15k miles. I've used michelins for a number of years now, so would like to try something different.

Given 77% while driving a Toyota Avensis verso (235/45 R17) on a combination of roads for 15,000 average miles
The PS3 is responsive & fairly quiet. Wet grip superb, as is dry. They are also reasonably comfortable for a low profile. But rapid wear is a negative. Previous Kumho KU31 about 40,000km but these will be worn in less than 25,000km.

Given 90% while driving a Audi A6 (235/45 R17 W) on a combination of roads for 20,000 average miles
One of the quietest tires i'v ever had on an audi A6 which is a heavy and demanding car on tires.

Given 59% while driving a BMW 320D (225/45 R17 W) on mostly motorways for 1,000 spirited miles
I was using bridgestone RE050A II runflat tires with my BMW E90.Then I followed the hype and wish to try a non rft tire to have more comfortable ride. And bought 4 PS3, Man I cannot tell you how bad idea it was. Because the side walls of PS3 so soft, My cars stability gone. It ride like it is on jelly. Also tire noise increased, very noticeable and irritating, while my bridgestone rft tire noise match with wind noise and was not noticeable. If you bought your BMW for its sporty feeling, stay away from PS3. Maybe if I try a tire like bridge S001 XL (reinforced) (hard sidewalls) it could be a different story but I do not want to gamble anymore and will buy Pirelli cinturato P7 runflats.Hoping sporty, silent ride.

Given 84% while driving a Ford Mondeo ST220 (225/40 R18 W) on a combination of roads for 10,000 spirited miles
I have had these tires now for 9 months on the front of my ST220 and have covered 9000 miles. The tread now is down to approx 3/4mm. Initially the tires were superb and very confortable/progressive and great on wet and dry. They do seem to have worn evenly however for the last 1000 miles ive noticed im getting a little tramlining/play through the steering and they are nowhere near as progressive and feels like ive lost about 40bhp compared to when they were new. Ive tried to combat this by increasing the psi from 33 to 36 which seems to have helped with the issues. Not sure if this was caused by the tire or the suspension/wheel set up as ive had pothole damage previously. Nevertheless they have been through the harsh winter of 2010/2011 and actually coped really well on the snow on a/b roads when other cars got stuck although i think this was down to them being pretty new when the snow came. I did get stuck once on a slight gradiant in my street but hey they are summer tires and got me home from work 13 miles on the worst night of snow. All in all they were a decent tire....as for value for money i'd say average as i will probably get ony 12000 miles out of them (although i have to say i drive hard and use most of the 220bhp of my car. I would definately recommend people try them but im gonna give some winter tires a try in October(maybe Michelin PA3,Continental WinterContact Ts830, or Goodyear Ultragrip performance 2) and then for next summer definately the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 as they have great reviews and i can get them for £130 each fitted from a performance car shop near my work which is £35 per tire cheaper than the ps3's....

Given 91% while driving a Subaru wrx turbo (225/45 R17) on a combination of roads for 1,000 average miles
These replaced a worn set of Michelin PS2 which I liked. As the PS2 is getting a bit long in the tooth, I decided to try out a set of PS3s. After scrubbing them in over a few miles, I soon found myself in familiar territory as they feel very similar to the PS2 (which is a good thing). They are just as precise and progressive as the PS2, and even a tad quieter. I can't comment on wear yet, but they look fine after a rather spirited forst 1000miles. Highly recommended for a high performance daily driven car.
