Michelin Pilot Sport 3 PS3 Reviews - Page 12

Given 77% while driving a Saab Automobile 9 3 SPORTSCOMBI (225/40 R18 W) on mostly town for 22 average miles
The PS3s has good steering responsiveness, cornering grip and stability at speed. However this was at odds with the ponderous dry braking and poor traction both wet and dry. Fairly comfortable and quiet when new, they gradually became moderately noisier, though sounding like wind noise and riding firmer as they wore down. With regular rotations, they lasted 36,000km with the tread was down to 3mm. This is longer than expected but in the last 3,000km, they started to tram-line road imperfections, especially from the rear end. Replaced the entire set with Goodyear Asymmetric 2 and initial impressions are that they are smoother riding and grip better than the PS3s. Steering feels less sharp but with less understeer.

Given 81% while driving a Mitsubishi lancer (195/50 R15 V) on a combination of roads for 10,000 average miles
No doubt they are great tires on dry.

However, what surprises me is the performance on wet. It really grips even with moderate rain and it clears water on the road really well. I feel less water resistance while plowing through water puddles compared to other tires.

The tire sidewalls are really solid, hence the higher road feedback. For a person who does not like tire-roll during cornering, this is THE tire.

The road noise would definitely be louder than comfort tires. I would rate it as moderate and is something expected from a sports tire.

In summary, the tire grips well in dry/wet but is not sticky like soft compound tires.

Given 80% while driving a SEAT Leon FR tdi (225/40 R18 W) on a combination of roads for 14,000 spirited miles
Just about to change the tires on the Leon after an enjoyable 14k miles on the Michelin Pilot Sports. The FR is 170bhp front wheel drive and the previous factory fitted Bridgestone Potensa's were quieter than the Michelins and a little more comfortable but there performance was shocking in the Wet / Ice grip felt almost non existent. The pilot sports on the flip slide have tonnes of grip in all conditions only down side is the road noise is a bit more but for the performance / grip gain its only a minor thing !

Given 90% while driving a Suzuki Swift Sport TC (195/55 R15) on a combination of roads for 2,000 spirited miles
2,000 miles on PS3, surprisingly good wet grip, tested on a 2 hours none stop heavy rain drive. Dry grip not as good as the wet, but it is more than enough for spirited driving. Sidewall not as hard as my previously AD08, dry grip not up to it as well. But given the price, noise and ride comfort, PS3 is worth buying than AD08. Excellent tire overall, no regret! ;)

Given 100% while driving a BMW 320D M Sport (225/45 R17) on mostly motorways for 40,000 average miles
Had PS3's all round. Standard tires, not the run flats that BMW recommends. Rears lasted 32k miles, front 43k miles. I mainly drive on motorways. Incredible feeling of stability at speed. Compared to the Bridgestone Potenza RE050 run flats that the car came with, the PS3 is another level and the car rides so much more smoothly without losing its cornering stability.

Will buy again (and again)

Given 99% while driving a Volkswagen Golf GT TDI 140 (225/45 R17) on a combination of roads for 17,000 spirited miles
I always put good tires on my car. I had continentals before, they were good but these ps3 are in a different league. Truly amazing in the wet and dry, golfs always suffer with feathering the back tires, this is limited with the ps3 . I got 17,000 out of a front pair of tires and I drive hard.
If you want the best then goes for the Michelin pilot sport 3.

Given 90% while driving a Renault Megane RS250 (235/40 R18 W) on a combination of roads for 15,000 spirited miles
I drive my car in a spirited fashion in a combination of city, country and motorway. I also used them for 2 track days and they lasted 15000 before I had to change them. I am most impressed with the grip on wet conditions. Great all rounder. Would highly recommend.

Given 69% while driving a Audi A3 Sportback (205/55 R16 W) on mostly motorways for 25,000 average miles
Super sticky in the dry, and when new, the wet. Wear quite quickly though, only managed 25k at a push for fronts despite most driving being dual carriageway commute - didn't come with a lot of tread new either. Poor feel - quite spongy, getting more vague so as traction begins to go. Performance drops off significantly when the temperature drops, though this isn't a problem most of the year. Economy quite bad for a Michelin, but then grip much better than expected as well! Complete contrast to the Primacy HP original fitments which had poor grip, but are extremely hardy!

Am trying Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance next - will hope for better wear and economy.

Given 99% while driving a Volkswagen GOLF MK5 R32 3.2 V6 4MOTION (225/45 R17 W) on a combination of roads for 1,500 spirited miles
Got these on my Golf MK5 R32 - excels in every area when racing the grip so well!!

Given 51% while driving a Volkswagen Golf GT TDI 140 (225/45 R17 W) on a combination of roads for 18,000 easy going miles
Bought these (expensive) tires because they were claimed (in early 2012) to be fuel efficient, with very good wear resistance.
Performance of tire was ok, but they are noisy, and the wear rate is VERY high; despite having a wear index of 320, a pair wore out in circa 18,000 miles, with very careful driving style.
NOT RECOMMENDED.

Given 79% while driving a Audi A4 2.0 TDI 170 Quattro (245/40 R18 W) on mostly country roads for 1,500 average miles
I have had these tires for a few weeks now and can say they have been excellent. My previous tires being the Pilot Sport version, these have been a marked improvement in my opinion.

The Pilots sports offered amazing dry grip but appalling wet grip. They aquaplaned regularly and even with Quattro, I was left at the edge of my seat on a few occasions. The roads here in the Czech Rep. are some of the worst in Europe especially off the beaten track which is where I am positioned. The grooves in the road from age and heavy use really cause the car to tramline as well but this is in part due to the size of the tire.

Overall, I must confess that I am happy with my purchase. The tires provide good dry grip and a substantially better wet grip. I have yet to test them at the edge yet but I am sure they will as good as the PS tires I replaced.

The only slight concern will be wear. I shall post again once I have more km's under my belt.

Dry: Very good
Wet: Much better
Cornering: Amazing
Comfort: With an S Line Avant Quattro, bloody uncomfortable and bouncy. But you can't entirely blame the tires for that!
Feedback: Electric power steering doesn't give much feedback anyway but as good as the Pilot Sports.
