Michelin Pilot Sport 3 PS3 Reviews - Page 14

Given 71% while driving a Skoda Octavia vRS (225/40 R18 W) on mostly country roads for 10,000 spirited miles
When new these tires were fantastic, in fact they were really great for about 10k miles but now they slide about all over the place when the road is slightly wet or salty and there's still at least 4mm of tread left! When new the tires gripped in wet or dry, gave masses of confidence and feedback when pushed on corners. Unfortunately still with 4mm tread the car is not safe to drive at the same pace at all, I have to gingerly accelerate to stop from sliding into the verge on a roundabout! I'm reluctant to buy another pair at £150 a corner for 10k miles worth so will probably try and drive with restraint if I can for a another 1-2000 miles if I can last that long! Otherwise it'll be some other brand next time. Got Goodyear Eagle F1's on the front which are pretty good but not as sharp steering when the Michelin's were on the front and new(put on the back when had Goodyear's fitted).

I've only had these on for 1,000 miles but thought I'd write a preliminary review.

I swapped to 4 new PS3s when I suffered a couple of on the fronts and my rears were down to 3 mm. I was on hankooks before.

The grip on these is great in dry with a slight drop off in the wet but I'll give consideration for the cold temps too as I've pushed them a bit where I probably shouldn't to see what they can do.

The car is very quiet inside now when cruising and it's a marked improvement over the Hankooks. General road driving is more comfortable too, with no tramlining along road surfaces which is an absolute pleasure!

They're not as precise as the cheaper Hankooks though, they feel soft going into a hard corner which explains the comfort but doesn't inspire confidence as I can't feel for sure what's happening. Maybe I'll adapt with some more mileage under my belt with them?

Can't comment on wear at the moment. I got them on an offer and would probably baulk at full price to be honest but I only got 14,000 miles out of the front Hankooks so we'll see if they're worth it in twelve months.

They also crap in the snow. worst I've had in snow to be fair. Any snow whatsoever and these just give up. I know they're a summer tire, but I could get up my road in the snow in the worn Hankooks. I know how to drive in the snow, but the PS3's don't like it one bit.

Haven't got the strength in my fingers to iterate how amazing these tires are. These tires just defy physics and really fill you with confidence to obtain that extra G around corners despite having a large family car.

Given 69% while driving a Honda Accord (225/45 R17 W) on mostly town for 15,000 average miles
Third and probably final review. My overall experience with these tires was very good. I was impressed with the excellent dry grip and the wet also.
I don't push them so hard to the limits, but if it counts I never felt I would be let down from the PS3's when cornering or braking. Especially the latter.

They proved to be quite comfortable so far although lately that they have been already very worn (something around 3mm left) I get the feeling that... they take the car where they like. Especially on wet. I have to mention though that my front wheels need minor camber adjustment. Another thing that contributes to the instability is the fact that I inflate the fronts at 2.4 and the rears at 2.3 psi since the car is heavier in front and it's also front wheel drive. This is what I did with the previous Continentals Sport Contact 3's I had regarding pressure and since mentioning Continentals I have to say the overall performance between the two brands Contis is almost identical for me. Can't say which is best. Maybe what you find cheapest!

I have got 24.000 km from the Michelins so far, that's approximately 15.000 miles. When I had to decide what to buy the salesperson promised at least 35-40.ooo km on city roads that was my case. However as I had assessed them from the early stages that they were fit on the car I thought I would be happy reaching 30k. Anyway I don't see them giving me another 5k easily to reach the 30k I expected. In the end it's sad to find out they turned to be 10-15 thousand km away from expectations.

If I didn't care for the money spent I would buy them again. But I have to admit I won't buy these or any other premium brand again. I would rather go for something cheaper and still reliable like Nexens or Altenzo that I found being sold almost half the price of Michelins or Continentals. Most probably Nexens N8000. I am sure I will get at least the same mileage and good performance. I personally don't care for that ultra high performance expensive brand tires anymore and as far as safety is in concern it proves to be not an issue with mid range brands.

Given 79% while driving a Audi A4 (225/45 R17) on mostly motorways for 10,000 average miles
Superb grip in the wet and dry, only let down by the comedy wear rate.

10k on the rear, mostly normal town and motorway driving and they are down to 2.3mm already. On the front they would be lucky to last 6k miles!

Great tire but poor value of you take wear rate and initial price into account.

Given 84% while driving a Audi A4 1.8T Quattro (205/55 R16) on mostly country roads for 18,000 spirited miles
Excellent tire, much of the good bits from the Goodyear F1 without ridiculously fast wear rates.

These have been fantastic on the mixed roads of north wales, especially in the wet.

Good value when the better wear rate taken into account for price.

Given 91% while driving a SEAT Ibiza FR TDi (205/40 R17 W) on a combination of roads for 10,000 average miles
After trying multiple tires i have found these to be the best all round tire, they make such a niticeable difference to the whole feel of the car and are very quiet compared with some previous rumblers!!
Pirelli Pzero are rubbish.
Suprisingly Dunlop sport maxx- very noisy..

Would advise michelin ps3 or continental sportcontact 3 or 5's

Given 92% while driving a Honda Integra DC2 (205/45 R16) on a combination of roads for 0 spirited miles
Having had a set of a lesser brand on my Integra and hopeless wet weather (and dry, limit, driving) it was time to change.

Having read reviews of the Michelin PS3s online I thought I would take a punt! Safe to say, Im glad I did!

Wet weather grip is incredible. Easily as good if not better than my previous setin the dry! In the dry they grip like nothing else and combined with the LSD, cornering is exceptional.

I havent had the tires long so cant comment on how they wear but with their performance, Im not caring how long they last!

Not being the cheapest (or most expensive) option for my wheels, I will quite happily buy again.

Given 86% while driving a Volkswagen Jetta 1.4TSi 170Sport (205/55 R16 W) on a combination of roads for 600 average miles
Coming from the stock Pirelli P7, I would say these tires are totally on another league. The wet grip are better than the P7 dry grip!!! And it really makes you forgot that the road is wet!!! As for the road feedback, I think it's very well balanced, I don't need to feel the smallest detail on the tarmac and these tires really telling you that you're sure-footed. It's much more quiet compares to P7 and much more comfortable too. Thinking back, I should have replace the stock P7 with these when I took delivery of my car. For you guys who feels that your ride is a bit on the firm n harsh side...try these...no regrets...

Given 96% while driving a Citroën ZX 2.0 16v (205/50 R16 V) on a combination of roads for 500 spirited miles
This tire has phenomenal grip on both wet and dry. PERIOD!.. it has increase the limits of my car's ability to grip, corner and brake better than all the tires i've used (Bridgestone AR10, ContiPremiumContact 2 and Dunlop SP)..

A little pricey, but you should never compromise safety! Apart from that, noise reduction is not the best, but still ok .. Overall, this is THE tire you want. benefit all kind of drivers especially spirited ones, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
