2026 Auto Express Summer Tire Test P4 of 8

The Maxxis Premitra HP6 is one of the bigger stories of this test, moving from the back of the field to the edge of the podium in a single generation. Wet cornering, dry handling and efficiency are genuine strengths rather than respectable results, and the price makes the package harder still to argue with. Aquaplaning is the area that still needs work, and until it improves the Maxxis is best suited to drivers who do not routinely meet standing water at speed.

Performance Analysis

Drawn from 7 tests. Updated October 28, 2026.

The Maxxis Premitra HP6 most consistently combines low rolling resistance with useful dry handling pace, while wet confidence, aquaplaning and braking are less convincing. In 2026, Auto Express placed it second of eight for dry handling and rolling resistance, while Tire Reviews recorded the quickest dry lap and third of 13 for rolling resistance. Motor also ranked rolling resistance third of nine. Dry braking was weaker, eighth of nine with Motor and sixth of eight with Auto Express, despite those stronger cornering results.

Wet behavior is more variable than lap times suggest. Tire Reviews placed it fifth of 13 on time but eleventh subjectively; Auto Zeitung described understeer followed by sudden rear breakaway. Auto Express unusually found it progressive and easy to use, contrasting with those handling concerns elsewhere. Its wet-circle win there did not prevent seventh of eight in both aquaplaning tests; ADAC likewise placed curved aquaplaning fifteenth of 16. Predicted wear was below average in ADAC and Auto Zeitung, the latter ranking cost per kilometer last of ten. Overall finishes ranged from fourth of eight with Auto Express to eighth of ten with Vi Bilagare, whose firm ride and noisy running also limited refinement.

The Maxxis Premitra 6 loses just 0.4 points to the Michelin, which is a notable result for the cheapest tire in the test. Its main strength is consistency - it finishes mid-pack in nearly every test without any weak spots. This means it is unlikely to surprise the driver in any conditions. Rolling resistance is at a good level.

2026 Vi Bilagare Summer Tire Test

Vi Bilagare 205/55 R16

Maxxis Premitra HP6 is effectively a disguised sport tire that works best when the road turns. It offers high stability in fast lane changes and the sharpest steering reactions in the test. The drawback is that it lacks the harmony of the better tires - it feels overly track-sensitive and the grip balance is rear-biased, leading to a tail-happy, slide-prone character when pushed. Wet curve grip is strong, but the overall handling package is less predictable. It also has the firmest ride in the group and noticeable road noise.

The BEST Summer Tires for 2026 Tested and Rated

Tire Reviews 225/45 R17 Tested by Tire Reviews

The Maxxis Premitra HP6 finished 8th overall, but it had one clear highlight: it was 1st in dry handling time and also scored in the top group for subjective dry handling. It also delivered a strong rolling resistance result compared with several performance-focused tires. In the wet, the objective results were decent in the middle group, but the subjective wet handling score was in the bottom group, which suggests the way it reached and went past the limit in the wet wasn't as confidence-inspiring as the stopwatch alone.

2026 ADAC Summer Tire Test

ADAC 225/50 R17

Maxxis’s Premitra HP6 receives only fair ratings in safety and environmental categories. The tire provides short braking distances on dry and wet roads but displays modest steering precision and grip at the limit on dry pavement. Wet-road performance is only fair. Environmentally, its predicted mileage is low, though weight and fuel consumption are favorable. ADAC highlights short braking, low abrasion and low fuel consumption as strengths, but notes handling weaknesses on both dry and wet surfaces and low mileage.

2026 Auto Zeitung 18 Inch Summer Tire Test

Auto Zeitung 235/45 R18

The Maxxis HP6 Premitra 6 is a new product that arrives at a competitive mid-range price, but the test results are mixed. Rolling resistance is good, sitting in the better half of the field, but this is offset by a poor predicted tread life - the second-lowest in the group - and relatively high abrasion. On wet roads the tire struggles. It initially pushes wide with understeer, and then when the front does eventually grip, the rear can lose traction quite suddenly, creating an unpredictable two-stage breakaway character that demands quick reactions from the driver. Wet braking distances are also long. On dry roads the picture is better - the Maxxis posts a quick handling lap time and changes direction well in the slalom - but test drivers noted a slight nervousness through fast corners, a background instability that doesn't inspire full confidence even though the tire remains controllable. The combination of weak wet performance and below-average durability means the tire doesn't offer enough to earn a recommendation despite its reasonable price.

2026 Netzwelt Mid Range Summer Tire Test

Netzwelt 205/55 R16

The Maxxis Premitra HP 6 delivers solid but unremarkable performance across the board. On wet roads it understeers in tight corners and steering response to direction changes is slightly delayed. Wet and dry braking are average with room for improvement. On the dry handling course, straight-line stability and balance are good, but turn-in and steering precision need work. Aquaplaning resistance is below average. Ride comfort is firm, with some drone in corners. It is the heaviest tire in the test at 8.9 kg but achieves the lowest rolling resistance.
