Bridgestone Turanza 6 vs Maxxis Premitra HP6

Bridgestone's Turanza 6 and Maxxis' Premitra HP6 sit in the same “daily-driver summer tire” space, but they reach it with very different personalities. The Turanza 6 is positioned as a premium touring tire with an explicit efficiency/comfort lean, while the Premitra HP6 is a value-oriented touring tire that repeatedly shows a sporty bias in objective handling tests.

Across three shared 2026 group tests (Vi Bilagare in 205/55 R16, and two 225/xx R17 tests), the Turanza 6 consistently finishes ahead overall (5th vs 8th, 4th vs 8th, 6th vs 8th). The interesting part is how they get there: Maxxis can be quicker around a course and strong in wet grip metrics, but Bridgestone tends to be the more rounded, efficient and long-lasting option-with fewer compromises for everyday use.

Test Results

Independent comparison tire tests are the best source of data to get tire information from, and the good news is there have been three tests which compare both tires directly!

Summary of three total tests comparing both tires directly

Bridgestone Turanza 6three

While it might look like the Bridgestone Turanza 6 is better than the Maxxis Premitra HP6 purely based on the higher number of test wins, tires are very complicated objects which means where one tire is better than the other can be more important in real world use.

Let's look at how the two tires compare across multiple tire test categories.

Key Strengths

  • Efficiency standout: best rolling resistance in the 225/45 R17 test (6.46 vs 7.69 kg/t, ~16% lower), also slightly better fuel use in ADAC (5.5 vs 5.6 l/100km)
  • Much longer expected wear and lower environmental impact in ADAC (55,600 km vs 37,200 km; lower abrasion 66 vs 76 mg/km/t)
  • More comfortable and quieter in subjective and measured results (e.g., Vi Bilagare comfort 4 vs 2; noise advantage in both tests that measured dB)
  • Generally predictable, neutral balance and easy control noted by testers-strong “no major weak points” touring behaviour
  • Sportiest on dry handling: fastest lap in the 225/45 R17 test (72.83s) with sharp steering and high stability in quick transitions
  • Often strong in wet lateral/limit grip metrics (wet circle wins in two tests; competitive aquaplaning results in 225/45 R17)
  • Braking can be very good in some conditions (ADAC dry 35.8 m vs 36.4 m; wet 33.4 m vs 33.8 m; especially strong on wet concrete 38.1 m vs 40.2 m)
  • Can deliver decent efficiency for a sporty-leaning tire, and was even slightly better on fuel in Vi Bilagare (5.3 vs 5.4 l/100km)

Best Review for the Bridgestone Turanza 6
Given 10% 215/50 R18 on a combination of roads for 200 average miles
Bought these based on reviews. Had all four previous Bridgestone Turanza (factory fitted 5 years ago when the car was new) replaced by these. When I drove from the garage they felt really planted and quiet. As I always check the tire pressures when I get home after having new tires fitted I left it a couple of hours to let them cool down. On initial inspection they looked like they needed more air in them. So I got the pump out and the gauge read 41psi (10psi more than recommended). I thought it was the gauge on the pump being faulty so I used another gauge only to find it was reading... Continue reading this review using the link below

Best Review for the Maxxis Premitra HP6
Given 73% 215/45 R17 on mostly country roads for 6,000 spirited miles
I have the OE version of the tire for BMW, which is a AAA version in 215/45 17. They were mounted on the rear axle of a Ford Fiesta ST Line 155 MH for testing.
Continental Premium Contact 6 tires are used up front.
The MAXXIS tires are very quiet, precise, and light. I'm convinced they're absolutely on par with the Continentals, as my car zips around fast corners with absolute neutrality and remains neutral with every load change.

Conclusion

On balance, the Bridgestone Turanza 6 is the better all-round consumer choice in this head-to-head. It repeatedly combines competitive braking with markedly stronger “ownership” metrics: class-leading rolling resistance in the 225/45 R17 test (6.46 kg/t vs 7.69 kg/t, ~16% advantage), and a huge predicted wear advantage in ADAC (55,600 km vs 37,200 km, ~49% longer). Add in better comfort/noise scores in Vi Bilagare (comfort 4 vs 2; lower rough-noise 73.5 vs 73.9 dB) and you get a tire that's easier to live with and likely cheaper per kilometre, even if the upfront price is higher.

The Maxxis Premitra HP6's case is performance feel and lap-time style pace. It's the fastest in dry handling in the 225/45 R17 test (72.83s vs 74.91s) and often looks strong in wet-circle/limit-grip style measures (wins wet circle in two tests and has the edge in straight/curved aquaplaning in that same 225/45 R17 test). The trade-off, echoed in multiple write-ups, is confidence and harmony at the limit: it can feel tail-happy/track-sensitive, scores worse subjectively in the wet (e.g., 6.3 vs 7.4 points), rides firmer, and gives up a lot on longevity. The practical takeaway: Turanza 6 is the “safe, efficient, long-life” pick; HP6 is the “sharper, sportier feel” pick if you can accept more noise/firmness and shorter tread life.
Key Differences
  • Longevity is the biggest separator: ADAC predicts ~49% more mileage for Turanza 6 (55,600 km vs 37,200 km), making Bridgestone far cheaper per kilometre for high-mileage drivers
  • Efficiency leans to Bridgestone overall: rolling resistance advantage is large (6.46 vs 7.69 kg/t, ~16%), with small but consistent fuel-use edges in ADAC (5.5 vs 5.6 l/100km)
  • Maxxis is the more overtly sporty handler in the dry: it wins objective and subjective dry handling in the 225/45 R17 test and is described as having the sharpest steering reactions
  • Wet performance splits into 'stopwatch vs confidence': Maxxis often posts strong wet grip/handling times, but Bridgestone scores better for subjective wet control (e.g., 7.4 vs 6.3 points) and is described as more predictable
  • Braking is close overall, but varies by test/condition: Bridgestone leads in two tests for both dry and wet braking by small margins, while Maxxis is better in ADAC and notably better on wet concrete (38.1 m vs 40.2 m)
  • Comfort/noise favour Bridgestone: better comfort and lower perceived noise in Vi Bilagare, while Maxxis is repeatedly flagged as firm and among the noisier tires

Footnote

This page has been developed using tire industry testing best practices. This means we are only comparing tests which have had both tires in the same test.

Why is this important? Tire testing is heavily affected by things like surface grip levels and surface temperature, which means you can only compare values from the same day. During a tire test external condition changes are calculated into the overall results, but it is not possible to calculate this between tire tests performed on different days or at different locations.

As a result you will see other tests on Tire Reviews which feature both the %s and %s, but as they weren't conducted on the same day, the results are not comparable.

Lots of other websites do this sort of tire comparison, Tire Reviews doesn't.
