The Barum Brillantis 2 generally finished around the middle of its summer test fields, but its strengths changed with year and size. ADAC placed it fifth of 15 in 165/70 R14 in 2012 and described it as balanced across safety tests. It was ninth of 16 in 2014, 11th of 19 in 2013 and 11th of 16 in 2016. Auto Bild's braking overviews put it 12th of 50 in 2012, 20th of 54 in 2015 and 21st of 51 in 2018; those overall places do not identify individual braking distances.
There are unusual reversals in the testers' judgements. ADAC praised dry performance in 2011, but found a slight dry weakness in 2013 and 2014. Wet performance was good in 2013 and acceptable in 2014, whereas ADAC noted wet weaknesses in 2011 and 2016. In ACE's 2016 mid-range comparison it finished sixth of ten overall, with the article describing a better showing in the wet than the dry. Wear was also inconsistent: ADAC criticised slightly higher wear in 2014 but praised low wear in 2016. The record therefore supports a generally middling assessment, with meaningful variation rather than one dependable grip or wear advantage.
