Giti GitiSportS2 vs Kumho Ecsta PS71

This head-to-head pits two ultra-high-performance summer tires aimed at the same 18-inch passenger-car segment: the Giti GitiSportS2 and the Kumho Ecsta PS71. Across five shared professional tests, the Kumho consistently placed near the front of the field while the Giti tracked mid-to-lower midfield. The data shows a clear pattern in wet and dry stopping power, handling precision, longevity and value.

While both tires deliver decent aquaplaning safety, they diverge sharply once grip and braking are stressed. Kumho repeatedly posts shorter wet and dry braking distances and faster handling laps, whereas Giti counters with quieter operation, lower fuel use/rolling resistance, and notably strong straight and curved aquaplaning reserves.

Kumho Ecsta PS71 Driver Reviews

Most drivers rate the Kumho Ecsta PS71 positively for strong wet and dry grip, predictable handling, and good value, often comparing it favorably to pricier premium options. Noise and faster wear appear as the main trade-offs, with several reports of increased road noise over time and below-average tread life for some vehicles. A minority report balancing/'egg-shaped' defects and tramlining, but these are not universal. Overall, the PS71 is a well-liked mid-range UHP tire focused on grip and value.

Best Review for the Giti GitiSportS2
Given 89% 235/40 R19 on mostly motorways for 10,000 spirited miles
Replaced the original Primacy 4 VOL with this set of new Gitis. So far very happy with the choice. Very comfortable and quite tires, no noticeable difference with the Michelin. Dry handling gives confidence and even in heavy rain the tire seems to well. The only negative point would be that the rim protector seems quite small and don't think it would do a good job. All things considered, and especially the low price point, these are a great choice and value for money! Recommended!

same kumho problem... balancing & egg shape. 245/45/18 100Y XL
I've always used kumho because the price well reflects in proformance if only they didn't need constant rebalencing.
I've had 4 duff pairs, ku31 x 2 pair, ku 39 x 2 pair that had to come off in the end they were so bad.
No amount of balencing can sort an egg shape tire.
These new ps71 are very soft, squishy, feel like running on 20psi with 30g wheel wobble even after twice rebalencing them & 1 of them is egg shape.
I am worn out with trying to get them right & think after years of kumho on... Continue reading this review using the link below

Conclusion

Across multiple independent tests and sizes, the Kumho Ecsta PS71 is the stronger all-rounder with meaningful advantages where it counts: shorter braking (often 10-12% better in the wet), more stable wet/dry handling, and longer tread life. It also tends to be cheaper to run per 1,000 km, combining performance with a compelling value proposition.

The Giti GitiSportS2's appeal is its exemplary aquaplaning resistance, lower noise, and slightly better efficiency. However, its weaker wet grip and shorter projected mileage limit its overall ranking and value. If your priority is confident stopping and control in varied conditions, choose the Kumho; if you drive mainly in heavy rain at motorway speeds and value quietness and efficiency over peak grip, the Giti can make sense. The practical takeaway: Kumho for performance and value, Giti for aquaplaning security and comfort.
Key Differences
  • Braking: Kumho stops shorter in every shared test (wet advantage often ~10-12%)
  • Handling: Kumho faster in dry and wet handling; Giti less precise, more temperature-sensitive
  • Aquaplaning: Giti leads both straight and curved aquaplaning in most tests
  • Noise/Comfort: Giti quieter; Kumho can be louder subjectively
  • Wear/Longevity: Kumho projects notably higher mileage (e.g., ~42k km vs ~31-33k km)
  • Value/Running costs: Kumho lower € per 1,000 km despite similar or lower purchase price

Footnote

This page has been developed using tire industry testing best practices. This means we are only comparing tests which have had both tires in the same test.

Why is this important? Tire testing is heavily affected by things like surface grip levels and surface temperature, which means you can only compare values from the same day. During a tire test external condition changes are calculated into the overall results, but it is not possible to calculate this between tire tests performed on different days or at different locations.

As a result you will see other tests on Tire Reviews which feature both the %s and %s, but as they weren't conducted on the same day, the results are not comparable.

Lots of other websites do this sort of tire comparison, Tire Reviews doesn't.
