Goodyear Vector 4Seasons Gen 3 vs Viking Fourtech Plus

Goodyear's Vector 4Seasons Gen 3 and Viking's Fourtech Plus target the same all-season brief but at different price points and ambitions. Across five shared tests from Auto Bild, ADAC and others, the Goodyear consistently places higher (including an outright ADAC win), while the Viking positions as a budget-friendly Continental sub-brand with selective strengths.
The headline story: Goodyear delivers a clear, repeated advantage in safety-critical metrics-especially on snow and wet handling/braking-plus markedly better wear. Viking counters with attractive pricing and occasional wins in aquaplaning resistance and efficiency, but it trails where most drivers need confidence most of the time.

Test Results

Independent comparison tire tests are the best source of data to get tire information from, and the good news is there have been five tests which compare both tires directly!

Summary of five total tests comparing both tires directly

five wins

While it might look like the Goodyear Vector 4Seasons Gen 3 is better than the Viking Fourtech Plus purely based on the higher number of test wins, tires are very complicated objects which means where one tire is better than the other can be more important in real world use.

Let's look at how the two tires compare across multiple tire test categories.

Key Strengths

  • Consistently shorter braking on dry, wet and snow (wins dry braking in all shared tests)
  • Strong wet and snow handling/traction with predictable feedback
  • Excellent wear and low abrasion (ADAC: ~51.8% longer projected mileage)
  • Competitive rolling resistance and comfort with low noise in several tests
  • Good aquaplaning resistance (multiple wins in straight and curved tests)
  • Competitive efficiency in some tests (fuel consumption, rolling resistance)
  • Acceptable wet behavior at moderate speeds with stable, safe manners
  • Lower purchase price improves upfront affordability

Dry Braking

Looking at data from five tire tests, the Goodyear Vector 4Seasons Gen 3 was better during five dry braking tests. On average the Goodyear Vector 4Seasons Gen 3 stopped the vehicle in 2.89% less distance than the Viking Fourtech Plus.

Almost time to switch back to my summer tires. So, here’s my impression of my “mild climate winter” tires. I used to drive on Continental WinterContact TS860 winter tires, but last winters, I noticed that I almost never drive on snow. And in spring and fall, when temperatures jump up and down, I was sometimes driving on my winter tires at temperatures around 20°C. So now, I followed your advice and chose All Season tires for the winter season. I drove them for about 6.000 km now in temperatures between -2 and +16 °C, in the dry and in lots of rain.
Just after switching to the... Continue reading this review using the link below

Conclusion

Pattern over single results is decisive here. Goodyear dominates braking and handling on wet and snow, and it's consistently shorter in dry braking across all shared tests. ADAC also shows a huge durability gap (approx. 68,000 km vs 44,800 km) and lower abrasion for Goodyear, improving lifetime value despite a higher upfront cost. Viking's best moments are in straight/curved aquaplaning and isolated efficiency scores, but its dry/wet stopping distances and precision limit overall safety margin.
If you drive through varied seasons, prioritize short stops in the wet, and value long tread life, the Goodyear Vector 4Seasons Gen 3 is the safer, more rounded choice. The Viking Fourtech Plus suits strictly budget-led buyers in milder climates who value aquaplaning reserves and fuel economy, and are willing to accept longer braking and lower steering precision.
Key Differences
  • Braking performance: Goodyear consistently shorter on dry and wet; Viking occasionally competitive in wet but generally longer stops
  • Winter capability: Goodyear stronger in snow/ice braking, traction and handling across all tests
  • Aquaplaning: Viking often superior in straight/curved aquaplaning; Goodyear still competitive
  • Handling precision: Goodyear offers better feedback and control; Viking criticized for vague steering and line-holding on dry
  • Durability: Goodyear shows much higher mileage and lower abrasion (ADAC +52% mileage)
  • Value equation: Viking cheaper upfront and sometimes more efficient; Goodyear higher initial price but better lifetime value due to wear and safety

Footnote

This page has been developed using tire industry testing best practices. This means we are only comparing tests which have had both tires in the same test.

Why is this important? Tire testing is heavily affected by things like surface grip levels and surface temperature, which means you can only compare values from the same day. During a tire test external condition changes are calculated into the overall results, but it is not possible to calculate this between tire tests performed on different days or at different locations.

As a result you will see other tests on Tire Reviews which feature both the %s and %s, but as they weren't conducted on the same day, the results are not comparable.

Lots of other websites do this sort of tire comparison, Tire Reviews doesn't.
