Goodyear Vector 4Seasons Gen 3 vs Viking Fourtech Plus

This head-to-head pits the premium-touring Goodyear Vector 4Seasons Gen 3 against the value-focused Viking Fourtech Plus across three shared tests in 225/45 R17 and 225/50 R17 sizes. The data covers dry, wet, and winter performance plus efficiency and longevity, giving a rounded view of real-world use.
Across the board, Goodyear consistently finishes higher (1/16 and 4/17 vs 8/16 and 11/17) and sweeps the key safety metrics of braking on dry, wet, snow, and ice. Viking counters with better aquaplaning resistance and lower fuel consumption/rolling resistance, positioning it as the efficiency-leaning alternative.

Goodyear Vector 4Seasons Gen 3three
three wins

While it might look like the Goodyear Vector 4Seasons Gen 3 is better than the Viking Fourtech Plus purely based on the higher number of test wins, tires are very complicated objects which means where one tire is better than the other can be more important in real world use.

Let's look at how the two tires compare across multiple tire test categories.

Key Strengths

  • Consistently shorter braking on dry, wet, snow, and ice
  • Excellent wear and low abrasion (ADAC: ~68,000 km; 26% lower abrasion)
  • Strong winter capability with superior snow traction/handling
  • Balanced wet handling and grip (faster wet circle/handling)
  • Better aquaplaning resistance (straight and curved)
  • Lower rolling resistance and fuel consumption
  • Competitive dry/wet handling feel for the price
  • Good environmental score for weight and efficiency

Almost time to switch back to my summer tires. So, here’s my impression of my “mild climate winter” tires. I used to drive on Continental WinterContact TS860 winter tires, but last winters, I noticed that I almost never drive on snow. And in spring and fall, when temperatures jump up and down, I was sometimes driving on my winter tires at temperatures around 20°C. So now, I followed your advice and chose All Season tires for the winter season. I drove them for about 6.000 km now in temperatures between -2 and +16 °C, in the dry and in lots of rain.
Just after switching to the Vector 4S,... Continue reading this review using the link below

Conclusion

The Vector 4Seasons Gen 3 is the safer, more complete all-season package. It stops shorter in every braking test that matters (dry, wet, snow, ice), handles better in the wet and on snow, and delivers markedly longer life with lower abrasion-ADAC projects 68,000 km vs 44,800 km for Viking, a 52% advantage. Its only notable dynamic caveat is average aquaplaning resistance and slightly imprecise dry steering, but the aggregate safety margin and durability are decisive.
The Fourtech Plus shines where efficiency and price matter: class-leading economy in these tests (up to 6.3% lower fuel use, lower rolling resistance), competitive straight and curved aquaplaning, and decent dry/wet handling balance. However, its longer dry braking, merely satisfactory winter grip, and shorter wear life limit its appeal for mixed-climate or performance-sensitive drivers. If you prioritize stopping distances and longevity, choose Goodyear; if budget and fuel economy in milder, wetter climates are primary, Viking is the pragmatic pick.
Key Differences
  • Safety margin: Goodyear leads every braking metric; Viking trails notably in dry/wet stop distances
  • Winter performance: Goodyear shows stronger snow traction/handling and shorter ice/snow braking
  • Longevity: Goodyear projected wear ~68,000 km vs Viking ~44,800 km (+52%) with lower abrasion
  • Aquaplaning: Viking resists straight/curved aquaplaning better in two tests
  • Efficiency: Viking posts lower fuel use (up to 6.3%) and rolling resistance
  • Value positioning: Viking cheaper per 1,000 km in AutoBild; Goodyear offers stronger lifecycle value via wear

Footnote

This page has been developed using tire industry testing best practices. This means we are only comparing tests which have had both tires in the same test.

Why is this important? Tire testing is heavily affected by things like surface grip levels and surface temperature, which means you can only compare values from the same day. During a tire test external condition changes are calculated into the overall results, but it is not possible to calculate this between tire tests performed on different days or at different locations.

As a result you will see other tests on Tire Reviews which feature both the %s and %s, but as they weren't conducted on the same day, the results are not comparable.

Lots of other websites do this sort of tire comparison, Tire Reviews doesn't.
