General Tire launches the Grabber AT3 Plus
General Tire has added the Grabber AT3 Plus to its all-terrain range, an all-season tire for SUVs and 4x4s aimed at drivers who split their time between paved roads and rougher surfaces. The company positions it as the successor to the Grabber AT3, and every size in the range carries the 3PMSF (three-peak mountain snowflake) marking, which meets the legal requirement for winter use in a number of countries.
Positioning
The Grabber AT3 Plus is pitched at the growing 4x4 and SUV market as a single tire that can cover year-round road driving alongside occasional off-road use. General Tire describes it as an across-the-board update on the outgoing Grabber AT3 rather than a narrow, single-area change.
What General Tire says is new
Compared with its predecessor, General Tire claims the Grabber AT3 Plus offers more traction on snow, improved grip on wet roads and a revised off-road tread design, with both the compound and pattern reworked for durability, handling precision and lower rolling noise. The company groups the changes under three of its existing 4x4 technologies:
- TracGen - large, open tread blocks and additional gripping edges, which General Tire says aid traction on loose surfaces while keeping handling tidy on the road.
- Comfort Balance - a focus on smooth rolling, reduced noise and ride comfort on longer journeys.
- DuraGen - a cut- and chip-resistant tread compound, reinforced tread blocks and stone bumpers aimed at off-road durability.
Manufacturer claims and label ratings
These figures are General Tire's own and have not yet been independently verified. Depending on the size, the Grabber AT3 Plus carries a "C" EU label rating for wet braking and a "B" rating for noise, and the full range is 3PMSF-marked for severe snow use.
Sizes and availability
At launch the range spans rim diameters from 15 to 22 inches, section widths from 195 to 315 mm and aspect ratios from 80 to 40 per cent. Selected sizes carry LT (light truck) marking with LRD and LRE load ratings for heavier-duty use, and depending on the size speed ratings reach up to 149 mph. General Tire says further sizes will follow in 2027.
How the previous Grabber AT3 has fared in independent testing
The launch numbers are the manufacturer's, but the outgoing Grabber AT3 already has an independent track record on the site. In the 2025 ADAC All Terrain Tire Test it finished third in a strong field, and it also placed third in our best all-terrain tires feature. That gives a useful baseline for judging whether the AT3 Plus delivers the gains General Tire is claiming.
What it means for drivers
For SUV and 4x4 owners who want one tire for the road, the trail and the occasional snowy morning, the Grabber AT3 Plus is General Tire's pitch for that all-rounder slot, with 3PMSF coverage across every size. As with any launch, the performance claims are the manufacturer's for now - we will test how they hold up on the road, off it and in the wet once tires are available.
