Ford Mondeo mk3 2.0 petrol Tires

Excellent value. Good dry grip, very good wet grip. No snow experience yet.

Many years ago whilst living in Scotland I used to use Vredestein tires sold by the local garage. .Don't knoiw why I got out of the habit. Now living in Derbyshire, most of my driving is on muddy local lanes and roads with a few ventures onto motorways.
As my old Mondeo passed yet another MOT I had to buy tires for it. I'm not a tire geek, but prefer a quiet tire. After a bit of research and reading the reviews here I decided on an all season tire and rekindled my enthusiasm for Vredestein.
From the second I drove away from the garage I knew I'd made the correct choice. The Quatrac 5 is quiet. It isn't soggy, pretty firm, gives lovely feedback and is great on the local muddy lanes. The day after fitting they got a blast down the motorway going south - a really comfortable and secure experience in cold heavy rain and flooded roads.
We've only driven about 500 miles, deliberately enacted a few emergency stops and slews in the wet and dry. No spin when accelerating. So far they're knocking spots of the Toyos, Michelins, Goodyears we've used in past times.
Can't speak for longevity as it's early days and awaiting some snow and ice.
How can one get so enthusiastic about four bits of rubber?

These tires were bought for a road trip around Europe, there were chosen based on reviews and price ( £40 each fitted). Fitted to the front only, as good Tyro CF2's on rear. I was expecting the A606 to have a bit less grip than the CF2's so on the limit the car would under-steer.

The first thousand miles was general day to day city driving in the UK. There were no problems with the tires, didn't notice any issues, they grip, are not noisy, would squeal in the dry if provoked and slide in the wet if provoked. Never had any unexpected lose of grip or handling issues.

Next 4000 miles was a trip around Europe, they performed fine of the motorways / Autobahns, nice ride, fairly quiet, solid Handling even at 115 mph.

Over the Alps with Spirited driving no real issues, squeals on hairpins, but no massive under-steer. On most Alpine twisty roads you have trouble going over 40mph ( unless you have a death wish ) due to the twists/ turns, steepness to the road and lack of performance due to the Altitude.

Around the coast roads in mixed Motorway and country road driving the tires behaved the same as they did in the City back home. No surprises, no issues. Coped with a heat wave and one very violent storm ( lots of standing water, almost no vision, so drove slowly ).

On the way back to the UK went to the nurburgring, this is were the tires showed there only weakness. As the car is 11 years old and has 150,000 miles on the clock the laps of the nurburgring were done as a very fast cruise. The day was very hot, the track was very hot. About 8 miles into the lap the ABS suddenly kicked in, I thought I had hit some oil or something. A couple of corners later the ABS kicked in again, from then on the car have chronic under-steer until the end of the lap. Back at the car park I saw the tire was melting badly. Did another lap driving smoother, Tire still went off after 8-9 miles. The rear Tyros never give a problem.

Once the P606's had cooled down, a quick drive on normal roads cleaned them up and they were back to normal. ( maybe its not a good idea to try and do a fairly fast lap of the nurburgring on inexpensive tires ).

Back in the UK after over 5000 miles hard use there is still just under 5mm of tread left.

Summary, A good general purpose tire. Not the best, but certainly not the worst. If you are a day to day driver looking for a affordable, but reliable tire I would say ( based on the tire size and car combination I used ) that you could do a lot worse than the P606.
