Reading the results

Seven shared winter tests and the Vredestein Wintrac Pro finished ahead in six of them, the exception being our own 2023 winter test, where the Giti GitiWinterW2 was 7th of 13 and the Vredestein 8th. Elsewhere the gaps are clear: 3rd of 16 against 9th at ADAC in 2024, 5th of 9 against 8th at Sport Auto, 5th of 8 against last at Auto Zeitung and 17th of 54 against 28th in Auto Bild's braking test.
Aquaplaning is the Giti's stand-out, and it is emphatic. It resisted better in all six straight-line measurements and all five curved ones, by 20.7 percent through the curve at Sport Auto, 2.92 against 2.42 m/sec2, and by 10.3 percent on the straight at Auto Bild, 81 against 73.4 km/h. It was also quieter in all four noise measurements and cheaper in all four price comparisons, 115 against 137 at ADAC.
The Vredestein wins nearly everything else, including wet braking in five of seven tests, rolling resistance in all four, wear in both and both ice braking measurements.
Conclusion
The Vredestein Wintrac Pro is the stronger winter tire. It finished ahead in six of the seven shared tests, 3rd of 16 against 9th at ADAC in 2024, 5th of 9 against 8th at Sport Auto, 5th of 8 against 8th and last at Auto Zeitung, 5th of 15 against 8th at ADAC in 2023, 6th of 13 against 8th at Auto Bild and 17th of 54 against 28th in the braking test. It braked shorter in the wet in five of seven tests, by 12.7 percent at Auto Zeitung, 53.6m against 61.4m, took snow braking four to two and snow traction four to two, and it rolled with less resistance in all four measurements. Longevity is one-sided too, 48,800km against 40,600km at ADAC with 64.7 against 88.1mg/km/t of abrasion, and it stopped shorter on ice in both measurements, 19.5m against 21m.
The Giti GitiWinterW2 is the aquaplaning and value specialist. It resisted standing water better in every single measurement, six straight and five curved, by 20.7 percent at Sport Auto and 14.8 percent at ADAC, it was quieter in all four noise measurements, and it undercut the Vredestein in all four price comparisons, 375 against 515 at Auto Zeitung, 27.2 percent less. In our own 2023 test its subjective dry and wet handling scores were the higher of the two, 98 points against 95 and 98 against 92.
Those subjective scores are worth a caveat: Auto Zeitung's panel came to the opposite conclusion on wet handling, 26 points against 17 for the Vredestein, so the two juries disagree sharply. Note also the Giti has just 1 owner review on the site against 30 for the Vredestein. For most winter drivers the Vredestein's snow, wet braking and wear advantages settle it; the Giti earns its place if you drive in heavy standing water and buy on price.
