GT-Radial ClimateActive vs Vredestein Quatrac

Two modern all-season premium-touring tires, GT-Radial ClimateActive and Vredestein Quatrac, go head-to-head across three independent tests covering dry, wet, snow, comfort, wear, and efficiency. Both target year-round convenience for passenger cars, but their tuning philosophies diverge.
Across the shared test set, Vredestein Quatrac is the consistent frontrunner with three overall wins, led by class-leading wet safety and strong winter assurance. GT-Radial ClimateActive positions as the value-centric all-rounder: competent everywhere, occasionally edging specific metrics like dry brake in one SUV-size test and rolling resistance across multiple runs.

While it might look like the Vredestein Quatrac is better than the GT-Radial ClimateActive purely based on the higher number of test wins, tires are very complicated objects which means where one tire is better than the other can be more important in real world use.

Let's look at how the two tires compare across multiple tire test categories.

Key Strengths

  • Lower rolling resistance in multiple tests, aiding fuel economy
  • Competitive snow braking/traction in certain sizes
  • Generally quiet road manners
  • Solid, predictable handling at a budget-friendly price
  • Class-leading wet safety: shortest wet braking and strong aquaplaning resistance
  • Confident winter performance with strong traction and handling
  • Top overall test results and balanced, precise handling
  • Excellent mileage and value over lifecycle

Best Review for the GT-Radial ClimateActive
Given 91% 195/55 R16 on a combination of roads for 1,000 average miles
Only had them on about a month at this point, but have covered 1000 miles with no wear showing at all, handling is good, if a little vague, not as much road feedback through the wheels as its predecessor. In heavy rain and mud these tires perform really well, as I’ve come to expect from GTRadial tires, the dry handling is similar in my experience to the Michelin Crossclimate 2, although I do find the Climateactive to be a more comfortable tire in comparison over bumps and road imperfections.

The tire is slightly noisy when cornering, but not enough to be an issue, just more... Continue reading this review using the link below

Best Review for the Vredestein Quatrac
Given 77% 205/55 R16 on a combination of roads for 7 spirited miles
They grip surprisingly well for an all season tire in the dry and snow. I have these mounted on a 8th generation Honda civic sedan with the r18 engine and these tires have me absolutely glued to the ground. I replaced my old Goodyear eagle "all season" tire which had the snow performance of a summer tire in the snow and didn't even preform well in wet or dry. But back to the vredestein, I once was screwing around (dry, 65°f) taking a highway exchang ramp a bit too fast, I hit one rather sharp bend at probably 55+mph and didn't break traction for a second, no tire squeal or anything. Another... Continue reading this review using the link below

Conclusion

Vredestein Quatrac distinguishes itself as the complete package: best overall in all shared tests, standout wet braking and aquaplaning reserves, confident snow traction/handling, and market-leading mileage and value scores. Its small trade-off is a slightly higher rolling resistance in some sizes, but not enough to dent its top-tier safety and longevity proposition.
GT-Radial ClimateActive delivers honest, balanced performance with no glaring weaknesses, plus tangible wins in rolling resistance and occasional advantages in snow braking and noise. For drivers prioritizing budget and efficiency with acceptable all-weather capability, it's a sensible pick. For most buyers-especially those who frequently face rain or mixed winters-the Quatrac's safety margin and durability make it the clearer long-term choice.
Key Differences
  • Overall results: Quatrac wins all shared tests (1/13 and 1/17 vs 6/13 and 9/17)
  • Wet safety: Quatrac stops shorter (e.g., 58.0 m vs 62.2 m in SUV test) and resists aquaplaning better
  • Winter assurance: Quatrac leads snow handling/traction overall; ClimateActive occasionally edges snow braking
  • Dry performance: Marginal-Quatrac slightly quicker in handling; split results in dry braking by size
  • Efficiency: ClimateActive shows lower rolling resistance; Quatrac's RR slightly higher
  • Durability/value: Quatrac markedly better wear (≈+28%) and lifecycle value; lower abrasion

Footnote

This page has been developed using tire industry testing best practices. This means we are only comparing tests which have had both tires in the same test.

Why is this important? Tire testing is heavily affected by things like surface grip levels and surface temperature, which means you can only compare values from the same day. During a tire test external condition changes are calculated into the overall results, but it is not possible to calculate this between tire tests performed on different days or at different locations.

As a result you will see other tests on Tire Reviews which feature both the %s and %s, but as they weren't conducted on the same day, the results are not comparable.

Lots of other websites do this sort of tire comparison, Tire Reviews doesn't.
