Braking distances and lap times are better when lower; speeds, wear and grip figures when higher. A test's figures are its own: sizes, cars, surfaces and temperatures differ from one to the next, which is why the averages here are only ever of tests the two tires shared. "Scored" rows are subjective driver ratings: each test uses its own scale, so only the wins are counted.

Michelin Pilot Sport 5

- 1,150,326 milesdriven by reviewers
Owners rate the Michelin Pilot Sport 5 very highly overall, with most highlighting standout grip in both the dry and wet and plenty of confidence for fast road driving. Comfort and refinement are also frequently praised for a UHP tire, with many finding it quiet and easy-going day to day. Wear is more divisive: many report strong mileage, but around one in ten complain of quicker wear than expected (and a smaller group mention uneven wear). Around one in eight owners also wish for sharper, more precise steering feel compared with sportier rivals.
- Outstanding wet grip and confidence in the rain
- Very strong dry grip with big reserves
- Comfortable, compliant ride for a performance tire
- Refined, relatively quiet motorway manners (especially when new)
- Steering feel can be a bit vague or slower to respond than rivals
- Can wear quicker than expected for some drivers
- Not happy when pushed hard on track; can overheat and lose grip

All 135 Pilot Sport 5 reviewsI have driven on PS5 for the first season in my 150HP car (Cupra Leon ST).
The grip both in dry and in the wet is excellent - I tried to push them to the limit many times and have never been able to lose the grip so far.
Although I have to mention that they feel very soft close at the limit - even though the grip always delivers in the end, the tire often „floats” when turning that you may start wondering if the tire will make it out of the corner.
Due to their softness, I find them comfortable as for the summer tire on small bumps.
Summing up - the grip is excellent, very safe and stable, breaking is sharp and… the tire itself looks amazing.
Something worth mentioning is that the rim protector doesn’t exist in this tire - if that’s something you care about, the PS5 is not for you.
Although I can’t find any cons in terms of safety in PS5, as a tire geek, I think about replacing them for the next season for something with more sharp/sporty steering (I would appreciate any recommendations).
Toyo Proxes Sport 2
- 92%from 9 reviews
- 100%would buy again
- 88,100 milesdriven by reviewers
Drivers report the Toyo Proxes Sport 2 delivers standout performance for the price, with consistently strong dry and wet grip, high confidence at speed, and sharp, predictable handling/steering response. Many comparisons against premium competitors (Michelin/Goodyear/Continental/Bridgestone) describe the Toyo as matching or exceeding them in real-world traction and stability while offering excellent value. Wear/longevity feedback is generally very positive where reported, with several users noting robust tread life. A smaller number of drivers mention trade-offs such as limited rim-protection and a sport-tire firmness (and occasional noise) depending on vehicle setup.
- Strong dry grip and traction
- Excellent wet grip and confidence in the rain
- Sharp handling, steering response, and stability at speed
- Predictable behavior under hard braking/cornering

All 9 Proxes Sport 2 reviewsI have had these tires on my Audi TT 2.0 TFSI Quattro for a year and a half now and coming from an avid PS4S user I must say I'm shocked at how good these are for the money! They were about £70 per corner cheaper than the PS4S' for the TT in 255/35/19 so initially I was sceptical but I am amazing at the handling, dry AND wet grip they provide and the longevity of the tires! I have covered a good mix of country roads, motorways and long trips across Europe in the year and a half I have had these on and they have never missed a beat! I'm so confident in the wet, even when driving very "spiritedly"! Granted they aren't as comfortable as a BluEarth GT AE51 for example but the car is lowered on coil overs so its not all the tires fault. 10/10 would defiantly purchase again and recommend to others.

Reading the results
Written from the test results and owner reviews above. It is analysis, not a measurement: where it and the tables disagree, the tables are right.
Michelin's Pilot Sport 5 and Toyo's Proxes Sport 2 both target the fast-road summer segment, but they approach it with noticeably different priorities. The Pilot Sport 5 is positioned as a max-performance benchmark that tries to be excellent everywhere (especially in the wet), while the Proxes Sport 2 is more of a comfort-leaning UHP option with a sharper price tag and a “good at most things” brief rather than category-leading ambitions.
Across 8 shared professional tests, the pattern is consistent: the Michelin repeatedly lands near the top of large group tests (e.g., 1st/7 in the 2026 Top Tire Review test and 3rd/20 in Autobild 2026), while the Toyo tends to finish mid-pack to lower-mid-pack (e.g., 5th/7 and 17th/20). The most important separation comes in wet safety metrics (where Michelin is extremely dependable) and in lifetime value (where Michelin's wear results are dramatically stronger), while Toyo's most repeatable advantages show up in noise and straight-line aquaplaning speed-and occasionally in dry handling pace in specific tests.
Conclusion
If you want the safest, most complete “one-tire answer” for a quick road car, the Michelin Pilot Sport 5 is the clear winner on the evidence. It wins wet braking in all 8 shared tests, often by meaningful margins (for example 28.3 m vs 31.4 m in the 2026 Top Tire Review test, and 43.3 m vs 46.1 m in Autobild 2026). It also tends to be quicker and more confidence-inspiring in wet handling, and it pairs that performance with standout longevity: projected wear advantages are huge in multiple sources (e.g., 59,670 km vs 38,420 km in Autobild 2026; 56,400 km vs 36,600 km in ADAC 2025). In practice, that means fewer “moments” in the rain and fewer tire replacements over the car's ownership.
The Toyo Proxes Sport 2 makes sense when your priorities tilt toward refinement and purchase price rather than outright wet performance and lifetime cost. It repeatedly measures quieter (wins noise in 5 shared comparisons, e.g., 71.3 dB vs 74.3 dB in Autobild 2026) and it's often cheaper upfront (e.g., 695 vs 545 in Autobild UHP 2023; 500 vs 385 in Autobild Sportscars 2023). It can also be competitive on dry lap-time style metrics in certain tests (notably 2025 AZ dry handling where Toyo was quicker: 68.7 s vs 69.6 s). The trade-off is that it rarely leads on core grip metrics and is repeatedly penalized for short mileage, which erodes the apparent savings over time.
Practical takeaway: the Pilot Sport 5 is the smarter choice for mixed weather, spirited road driving, and high annual mileage; the Proxes Sport 2 is best viewed as a quieter, cheaper-to-buy alternative for predominantly dry use-so long as you're comfortable with the wet-braking gap and faster wear.
