Continental AllSeasonContact 2 vs Toyo Celsius AS2

This head-to-head pits two all-season touring heavyweights against each other: Continental's AllSeasonContact 2, a premium benchmark aimed at balanced, year-round safety, and Toyo's Celsius AS2, positioned as a value-forward all-rounder promising long life and solid day-to-day manners. Both target passenger-car drivers who want one set of tires for mixed climates without swapping seasonally.

Across four shared professional tests (2023-2024) in 17-inch fitments, a clear pattern emerges. The Continental consistently sits near the top of the field (as high as 2nd overall), while the Toyo trends mid-pack (often outside the top 10). Expect the Continental to pull away decisively in wet and winter metrics, while the Toyo counters with stronger aquaplaning reserves, very competitive dry manners, and markedly better value and abrasion performance.

Test Results

Independent comparison tire tests are the best source of data to get tire information from, and the good news is there have been four tests which compare both tires directly!

Summary of four total tests comparing both tires directly

four wins

While it might look like the Continental AllSeasonContact 2 is better than the Toyo Celsius AS2 purely based on the higher number of test wins, tires are very complicated objects which means where one tire is better than the other can be more important in real world use.

Let's look at how the two tires compare across multiple tire test categories.

Key Strengths

  • Class-leading wet braking and grip (≈9-10% shorter wet stops in multiple tests)
  • Strong winter capability (better snow braking, traction, and handling)
  • Low noise and stable, sporty wet handling feel
  • Competitive efficiency with generally lower rolling resistance vs Toyo in 2023 tests
  • Excellent value and lower cost of ownership (strong price/performance)
  • Very good aquaplaning resistance (straight and curved)
  • High mileage and low abrasion mass (durability)
  • Balanced, secure dry behavior

Dry Braking

Looking at data from four tire tests, the Continental AllSeasonContact 2 was better during two dry braking tests. On average the Continental AllSeasonContact 2 stopped the vehicle in 0.5% less distance than the Toyo Celsius AS2.

Best Review for the Continental AllSeasonContact 2
Given 88% 225/40 R18 on a combination of roads for 50 spirited miles
Compared to my previous premium summer tires, the Continental AllSeasonContact 2 is incredibly quiet and has fantastic grip. I am driving a plug-in hybrid Audi A3, and it became basically silent in fully electric mode. I always had wheelspin when I accelerated a little harder, because of the instant torque of the electric motor. What fascinates me is that this happened with both Bridgestone and Vredestein summer tires in warm, dry weather conditions. This is no longer the case with the ASC2. The rolling resistance also feels much better, the car coasts so effortlessly. Power consumption... Continue reading this review using the link below

Best Review for the Toyo Celsius AS2
Given 73% 205/50 R17 on a combination of roads for 500 average miles
This is the initial review as I have done only a few hundreds of kilometres in autumn wet and dry conditions. The tires have surprised me with comfort. Even with relatively low profile of the 205/50 R17 size they feel comfy and soft (which can be both good and bad thing depending on the situation). In the wet they feel safe even at motorway speeds and heavier rain. In the dry they are much more comfort oriented than handling oriented. There is no noticeable tramlining with these tires. I would recommend them especially if you are looking for comfy ride. In the 205/50 R17 size they have... Continue reading this review using the link below

Conclusion

Continental's AllSeasonContact 2 is the more rounded, safety-led choice. It dominates wet braking (≈9-10% shorter) and wet handling, and carries a meaningful advantage on snow across braking, traction, and handling. Noise is a touch lower and rolling resistance is competitive. These strengths translate to confident control in rain and winter, which is where all-season tires are most frequently stress-tested.

Toyo's Celsius AS2 answers with better straight-line and curved aquaplaning margins, neutral dry behavior, standout abrasion (lower mass loss), and a noticeably stronger value proposition, often costing less while delivering excellent mileage. If your climate is milder with heavy standing-water risk and you prioritize purchase price and longevity, Toyo makes sense. For drivers who regularly face rain-cold cycles or snow and want maximum all-weather security, Continental is the safer, higher-performing bet.
Key Differences
  • Overall result spread: Continental finishes 2nd-5th; Toyo 12th-16th across shared tests
  • Wet braking: Continental shorter by ~9-10% (e.g., 53.6 m vs 59 m; 45.4 m vs 50.6 m)
  • Wet handling/grip: Continental notably faster on lap and wet circle
  • Winter performance: Continental leads snow braking, traction (≈13%), and handling
  • Aquaplaning: Toyo superior in straight and curved tests
  • Value/durability: Toyo offers lower price/1000 km and lower abrasion; Continental often pricier

Footnote

This page has been developed using tire industry testing best practices. This means we are only comparing tests which have had both tires in the same test.

Why is this important? Tire testing is heavily affected by things like surface grip levels and surface temperature, which means you can only compare values from the same day. During a tire test external condition changes are calculated into the overall results, but it is not possible to calculate this between tire tests performed on different days or at different locations.

As a result you will see other tests on Tire Reviews which feature both the %s and %s, but as they weren't conducted on the same day, the results are not comparable.

Lots of other websites do this sort of tire comparison, Tire Reviews doesn't.
