Auto Bild Performance, the German version of EVO magazine have put together the tire test EVO should have. 7 wide 225/40 R18 tires on a 260bhp Mazda 3 MPS.
On test are the usual premium brands, with only Bridgestone missing from the "big 6". Also included a midrange Hankook and a budget Rockstone.

With many of the major big brands introducing new winter tires for the 2011 season, winter tire tests have never seen so interesting. This year, Automobile Club Europe [ACE] tested 8 winter tires in the popular 205/55 R16 91H size on a VW Golf.

Due to two unusually harsh winters, interest in winter, or cold weather tires has never been higher in the UK. The benefits are now being understood - while winter tires naturally work wonders in snow, they also work extremely well any time the average temperature is below 7c, often out performing summer tires even in the dry. During early morning commutes, where the road temperature is around freezing they can offer noticeable more grip than a summer tire in the same conditions, allowing you to make progress safely, and can stop over 5 meters shorter than the equivalent summer tire from 62mph.

On test are 4 of the leading brands. Bridgestone is represented by the brand new S04 Pole Position, Continental has the ExtremeContact DW, Michelin brings the new Pilot Super Sport and Pirelli puts the P Zero to test.

Sport Auto have tested seven 245/40 R18 Max Performance Summer Tires on an Audi TT RS, but which will dominate in this dry bias test?
To ensure conditions were suitable for a summer tire test, Sport Auto visited a Bridgestone test track in Italy. Taking part in the test are some of the newest tires to market, including the new Michelin Pilot Super Sport, Pirelli P Zero, Bridgestone Potenza S001 and Toyo T1 Sport, along with the existing Nokian Z G2, Dunlop Sport Maxx GT and Sava Intensa.

The results are closer than ever, with both the dry and wet performance scores hotly contested. Overall, the new Pirelli P Zero wins thanks to it’s incredibly high wet grip and strong scores in every category. The new Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 places second thanks to it's class leading braking and low rolling resistance, while the Goodyears sister tire, Dunlop Sport Maxx TT rounded out the top 3 due to it’s sporty handling and excellent grip throughout.

It's not often you get the opportunity to try different tires on identical cars one after the other, so when we were presented with 3 Audi A7's wearing 3 different max performance summer tires in 255/35 19 there was only one thing on our mind - a subjective handling shootout!
