Goodyear UltraGrip Performance 3 vs Linglong Sport Master Winter

This head-to-head pits a premium UHP winter tire, the Goodyear UltraGrip Performance 3, against a value-oriented touring option, the Linglong Sport Master Winter. Across five independent 2025 tests in sizes from 215/55 R17 to 245/45 R19, they faced a full winter gauntlet: dry, wet, snow, aquaplaning, noise, wear, and efficiency.

Early spoiler: the Goodyear dominated overall (five test wins out of five) with class-leading wet safety and convincingly better snow capability, while Linglong's highlights were lower purchase price, some quick dry laps, and isolated aquaplaning strengths. The meaningful gaps emerge in emergency braking, stability on snow and wet, and long-term running costs.

Test Results

Independent comparison tire tests are the best source of data to get tire information from, and the good news is there have been five tests which compare both tires directly!

Summary of five total tests comparing both tires directly

five wins

While it might look like the Goodyear UltraGrip Performance 3 is better than the Linglong Sport Master Winter purely based on the higher number of test wins, tires are very complicated objects which means where one tire is better than the other can be more important in real world use.

Let's look at how the two tires compare across multiple tire test categories.

Key Strengths

  • Best-in-test wet safety: shorter wet braking by ~8-9% and faster wet handling
  • Consistently stronger on snow (braking, traction, handling, subjective control)
  • Lower noise, lower rolling resistance, and substantially longer tread life
  • Balanced, predictable dynamics with high subjective scores and test wins
  • Lower purchase price and favorable price-per-1000 km in some tests
  • Quick dry handling laps in several sizes; competitive dry braking at times
  • Isolated aquaplaning strengths (notably curved aquaplaning in one test)
  • Acceptable comfort in some evaluations

Dry Braking

So far, amazing tire. One of the best ever made. It grips and it handles so much better than the eagle f1 asymmetric6, the previously fitted on this car, and the wintercontact ts 850 p on another. And the comfort, its like the car is floating. Not cheap though.

Best Review for the Linglong Sport Master Winter
Given 80% 255/40 R19 on a combination of roads for 1,500 average miles
First impressions of the tire are very satisfactory. They perform well on dry and wet roads. I haven't had a chance to test them on snow and ice yet. Comfort is good, but as expected, the tires are noisy and the car consumes more fuel with winter tires than with summer tires.

At the time of purchase, the tires were 3x cheaper than mid brands and even 5x cheaper than premium brands. That's why I decided to buy them and check whether it is necessary to buy expensive tires for normal driving conditions and usual driving style. My conclusion is that Linglong sport master winter... Conclusion

The Goodyear UltraGrip Performance 3 is the safer, more rounded winter choice. It repeatedly stops shorter in the wet (often by 8-9%: 32.6 m vs 35.7 m; 50.9 m vs 55.8 m) and is consistently stronger on snow across braking, traction and handling, converting to calmer, more predictable control in difficult conditions. It's also quieter and markedly more efficient, with lower rolling resistance and far longer projected life (e.g., 43,750-53,000 km vs 28,500-46,110 km). While its dry lap times aren't always the fastest, subjective control and stability scores favor Goodyear.

The Linglong Sport Master Winter delivers occasional dry-track speed and attractive upfront pricing, and in one test showed strong aquaplaning resistance. However, longer wet and snow braking distances, nervous handling, higher rolling resistance, and weaker wear undermine its value once total cost of ownership and safety margins are considered. For real-world winter driving, especially where rain or snow is common, Goodyear is the clear recommendation; Linglong only makes sense for budget-led buyers in mild climates who prioritize price and occasional dry performance.
Key Differences
  • Overall results: Goodyear swept all five shared tests (1st-5th vs 5th-9th ranges)
  • Wet braking: Goodyear repeatedly shorter (e.g., 32.6 m vs 35.7 m; 50.9 m vs 55.8 m)
  • Snow capability: Goodyear leads across braking, traction and handling in every test
  • Handling character: Goodyear stable/neutral vs Linglong's nervous/oversteer tendencies reported
  • Efficiency and wear: Goodyear lower RR (≈6-14% better) and longer life (up to +50% in one test)
  • Noise and comfort: Goodyear generally quieter; comfort favors Goodyear in AMS, ties elsewhere

Footnote

This page has been developed using tire industry testing best practices. This means we are only comparing tests which have had both tires in the same test.

Why is this important? Tire testing is heavily affected by things like surface grip levels and surface temperature, which means you can only compare values from the same day. During a tire test external condition changes are calculated into the overall results, but it is not possible to calculate this between tire tests performed on different days or at different locations.

As a result you will see other tests on Tire Reviews which feature both the %s and %s, but as they weren't conducted on the same day, the results are not comparable.

Lots of other websites do this sort of tire comparison, Tire Reviews doesn't.
