BFGoodrich Advantage vs Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance 2

This head-to-head pits two premium-touring summer tires targeting everyday drivers who value safety, comfort, and efficiency: the BFGoodrich Advantage and the Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance 2. Across 13 shared tests from ADAC, AutoBild, and others, the Goodyear consistently finishes higher overall, frequently praised for class-leading mileage and efficiency.

The BFGoodrich counters with a lower purchase price, quiet rolling, and occasional flashes of strength in dry braking and straight-line aquaplaning. But when conditions turn wet-or when long-term costs matter-the Goodyear's blend of grip, stability and exceptional tread life shifts the value equation in its favor.

Test Results

Independent comparison tire tests are the best source of data to get tire information from, and the good news is there have been fourteen tests which compare both tires directly!

Summary of fourteen total tests comparing both tires directly

While it might look like the Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance 2 is better than the BFGoodrich Advantage purely based on the higher number of test wins, tires are very complicated objects which means where one tire is better than the other can be more important in real world use.

Let's look at how the two tires compare across multiple tire test categories.

Key Strengths

  • Lower purchase price in most tests, strong price appeal
  • Quiet rolling and good ride comfort
  • Occasionally short dry braking and stable dry handling
  • Solid straight-line aquaplaning performance
  • Outstanding tread life (often +45-75% vs BFGoodrich)
  • Consistently better wet braking/handling and balanced grip
  • Low rolling resistance and efficient fuel use
  • Very good value over lifetime despite higher upfront price

Dry Braking

Looking at data from eleven tire tests, the Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance 2 was better during five dry braking tests. On average the Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance 2 stopped the vehicle in 0.19% less distance than the BFGoodrich Advantage.

Real World Driver Reviews

BFGoodrich Advantage Driver Reviews

Drivers of the BFGoodrich Advantage largely praise its comfort-focused character, highlighting a plush ride, low noise, and confident wet braking/traction. Many note it suits normal and sedate driving very well, with good value and signs of strong wear life. However, multiple reviewers report average dry grip with some understeer and lack of precision when pushed, so it's not ideal for sporty driving. Overall sentiment is strongly positive, with the tire excelling in comfort and wet safety over outright performance.

Based on 14 reviews with an average rating of 79%

Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance 2 Driver Reviews

Across 101 reviews, the Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance 2 is most often praised as a premium touring tire with outstanding longevity, strong day-to-day grip (dry and frequently wet), and a noticeably quiet, comfortable ride with good fuel economy. Many drivers report very high mileages with slow, even wear and stable motorway manners, making it especially popular for high-mileage commuting and taxi/fleet use. A smaller but recurring set of complaints centers on a soft sidewall feel (vague/"spongy" steering, tramlining or less confidence when pushed) and, for some users, increased or unusually high road noise as the tire ages; a minority also note weaker wet braking/traction than expected.

Best Review for the BFGoodrich Advantage

I bought these on the strength of the UK Tirereviews website piece on 2021 Summer tires. Even though I do not live in the UK, so far as I was able to tell, the Advantage sold here in Australia is exactly the same as the Advantage sold in the UK that was reviewed, save for one extra ply in the sidewall. I purchased these tires on the basis of them coming top of the heap in terms of comfort in the aforementioned review. The roads where I live are appalling and getting worse by the day and it might be some time (if ever) before I can buy a large SUV such as a Santa Fe or Sorento that would... Been looking for new set of summer tires after decided to change my wheels size too, I went from 17” wheels down to 16” and fitted new set of Goodyear efficient grip performance 2, latest model tires, they were made in week 7 of 2020 and I fitted them in week 8 of 2020, absolutely brand new and fresh rubber. So far so good, traveled around 1000 miles and tires are excellent, performance, comfort, even though they are smaller size there is no negative performance, corners great, braking in both dry and wet is good, car feels very positive to drive , noise level also good. Conclusion

The data shows a clear pattern: Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance 2 is the more rounded and higher-performing tire, especially in wet braking/handling and rolling resistance, and it delivers outstanding wear life-often 45-75% more mileage in independent tests. That translates into better safety margins in rain and lower total cost of ownership despite a higher upfront price.

BFGoodrich Advantage remains a viable, quieter, budget-friendlier option with decent dry manners and good straight-line aquaplaning, but it's more sensitive in the wet and trails meaningfully in efficiency and durability. For most buyers-urban commuters, long-distance drivers, and anyone prioritizing wet safety and value over time-the Goodyear is the confident pick. Choose the BFGoodrich if initial price and comfort are your top priorities and your driving is predominantly dry.
Key Differences
  • Overall results: Goodyear wins 12 tests vs 1 for BFGoodrich, indicating broader consistency
  • Wet performance: Goodyear leads wet braking 7 vs 3 and wet handling 4 vs 2, a meaningful safety edge
  • Wear/mileage: Goodyear repeatedly delivers +45-76% longer life (e.g., 65,700 km vs 37,300 km in ADAC 2023)
  • Efficiency: Goodyear has lower rolling resistance in 6 categories, aiding fuel economy
  • Noise/comfort: Both are quiet, but BFGoodrich often measures slightly quieter externally; Goodyear still comfortable
  • Value: Despite higher price, Goodyear's cost-per-1,000 km is lower in multiple tests; BFGoodrich wins on upfront price

Footnote

This page has been developed using tire industry testing best practices. This means we are only comparing tests which have had both tires in the same test.

Why is this important? Tire testing is heavily affected by things like surface grip levels and surface temperature, which means you can only compare values from the same day. During a tire test external condition changes are calculated into the overall results, but it is not possible to calculate this between tire tests performed on different days or at different locations.

As a result you will see other tests on Tire Reviews which feature both the %s and %s, but as they weren't conducted on the same day, the results are not comparable.

Lots of other websites do this sort of tire comparison, Tire Reviews doesn't.
