Summer tires use compounds that work best in warm conditions, giving the strongest wet and dry grip of any season category when temperatures are mild or hot. Their performance falls away in the cold, which is where winter and all season tires take over.

sudden braking at low speeds, ABS constantly active, dry surface summer tire
Fitted to a 3.5 ton 2019 Peugeot Boxer Horsebox . Vehicle has done 11.500 miles (Sept 2025) from new. Very pleased with tire wear. Always check your tire pressures on a regular basis. Keep the correct tire pressure for your load and vehicle use on a note taped to the back of your sunshield plus the height of your vehicle. Horsebox travels well on local. dual carriageway and motorways. Dry and wet grip good. Comfort is variable due to road blemishes and potholes.
I used them for 10 years and more than 100000 km and they just dont wear. Still had 6mm pattern.
It was fully satisfactory in dry, but I am a slow driver. On wet you need to be carefull with slipping and braking, but in aquaplanning they are very good in my opinion.

I fitted these to 2021 Merc Vito 116 SWB.
The stock tires were Continental Vancontact 200, which were well worn by 50k kms.
My first thoughts of the Firestones was that I'd made an awful mistake by having these fitted.
I was almost going to turn around after a few 100km and see if they would replace them with something with better traction.
However as it turns out the break in period for these tires is unusually long, I would say at least 1500km before I felt that these tires gave sufficient grip to be safe.
Now after 10k kms I have either developed a tolerance for them but objectively they offer great grip for me in most conditions and even in heavy rain have delivered good handling characteristics.
If you require good grip and handling straight after fitment then these may not be for you but as a driver with many years of experience with many vehicles and tires I can assure you that after a while these tires will start to feel much better, maybe its a lot of mould release compound trapped in the rubber but I have never experienced such a long break-in period as with these tires.

Grip is great when accelerating on dry or wet, even on wet uphill starts!
But it doesn't do so well when cornering, grip loss happens suddenly and with no warning, and slides are hard to recover from.
