The evidence behind the verdict

THIS DATA IS BASED ON INTERNAL MICHELIN TESTING.

Now that's clearly out of the way, I think it's quite an interesting datapoint. I'm confident the data will be good as when companies put competitor data in the public eye, they risk being sued over it, so they triple check everything is fair.

Notes on the data below.

The Goodyear® Assurance® WeatherReady® has already been replaced with the WeatherReady 2. The wet braking and snow traction were performed on tires buffed down to 3/32", and the traction results are a percentage based result compared to a standard reference tire, so ignore the fact it says pulling force in newtons. Basically, higher is better.

The same dataset also has a wear test where the Michelin CrossClimate 2 had an estimated tread life life (based on calculating the most-worn groove of a rotated set) of 77,590 miles versus Bridgestone WeatherPeak at 41,127 miles.

113 ft Best 0 mph
121 ft +8 ft 21 mph
130 ft +17 ft 29 mph

The difference between best and worst was 14.9% (17 ft ≈ 1.1 Car Lengths). From 80 mph, the Goodyear Assurance WeatherReady would still be travelling at 29 mph when the Michelin CrossClimate 2 AW had stopped.

Residual speed is calculated from the measured braking distances, assuming constant deceleration; it is not a separate measurement.
