Data updated

Which should you buy?

Pick the Vredestein Wintrac Pro+ if you regularly face snow/slush or want the most convincing winter-safety envelope (snow traction/braking and aquaplaning margins). Pick the Yokohama BluEarth Winter V906 if your winters are mostly cold, wet, and cleared roads and you prioritize dry braking feel and especially lower cost-per-kilometer-just don't buy it expecting strong snow performance.

Wins count every measurement the shared tests recorded for both tires; a tick marks the tire ahead on that line. Subjective driver scores count as wins but are never averaged, because each test uses its own scale.

Head to head in 3 tests, 2025 to 2026

Each row is one published test in which both tires ran on the same car, in the same size, on the same day. The line is the whole field, winner on the left.

Point at or tap any spoke for both tires' figures.

In each test the better of the two figures counts as 100% and the other as its share of it, so a 118 ft stop against 112 ft is 95%; each spoke averages the shared tests that recorded it. The scale stops at 96%: a point further in sits on the hub's edge, hollow. 16 measurements recorded in only one shared test are left off; every measurement is in the table further down.

Every measurement, side by side

Averages of the figures both tires posted in the same tests. The gap is the average of each test's own gap, so figures from different cars and years are never mixed. Open a discipline for its measurements, and a measurement for every test's figure.

Braking distances and lap times are better when lower; speeds, wear and grip figures when higher. A test's figures are its own: sizes, cars, surfaces and temperatures differ from one to the next, which is why the averages here are only ever of tests the two tires shared. "Scored" rows are subjective driver ratings: each test uses its own scale, so only the wins are counted.

Scores beyond the shared tests

Not tested in the snow to any great extent but solid in cold weather and frosty wet roads. Wear rate is only average at best but I assume a good winter tire like this is a fairly soft compound.

Reading the results

Written from the test results and owner reviews above. It is analysis, not a measurement: where it and the tables disagree, the tables are right.

This is an interesting head-to-head because these two winter tires aim at slightly different buyers: the Vredestein Wintrac Pro+ leans ultra-high-performance (UHP) with a more dynamic brief, while the Yokohama BluEarth Winter V906 is positioned as a premium-touring winter tire with a stronger emphasis on running costs and everyday drivability.

Across three shared tests (ADAC 2026 in 225/50 R17, an AZ 2025 test in 245/45 R19, and a large 52-tire braking comparison in 225/40 R18), they end up close on overall ranking at times (notably a joint 9th in ADAC). But the way they get there is very different: Vredestein repeatedly delivers better “winter” safety metrics (snow/ice grip, aquaplaning margins, and usually wet braking), while the Yokohama tends to look better in dry stopping/steering feel and-most consistently-wear and cost-per-kilometer.

Conclusion

If your winter involves real snow and frequent slush/water, the Vredestein Wintrac Pro+ is the safer, more winter-credible choice in this pairing. It wins snow braking in all shared datasets (e.g., 9.8 m vs 10.2 m in ADAC; 26.3 m vs 27.1 m in AZ) and shows a clear traction advantage in ADAC (2641 N vs 2437 N). It also tends to give you a bigger buffer against aquaplaning (e.g., 76.6 vs 74.1 km/h straight aquaplaning in ADAC; 88.2 vs 85.4 km/h in AZ) and generally comes out ahead on wet braking in two of the three shared tests.

The trade-off is ownership and dry-road finesse. The Yokohama BluEarth Winter V906 more reliably wins dry braking (ADAC: 45.2 m vs 46.5 m; AZ: 43.3 m vs 44.6 m) and is judged stronger subjectively on dry handling in AZ. More importantly for many drivers, it can be dramatically cheaper to run in ADAC: a much longer projected life (49,800 km vs 34,300 km) and better value metric (1.97 vs 3.32 price/1000). The practical takeaway: choose Vredestein for winter grip and wet/aquaplaning security; choose Yokohama if your winters are mild and you prioritize longevity/cost and solid dry stopping-while accepting that multiple test notes flag it as comparatively weak on snow and not especially efficient (including the highest fuel consumption in ADAC).

Where this data comes from

Finishing positions and measurements are transcribed from each published test. A test only counts here when both tires ran in it, so every figure was recorded on the same car, size and day as the one it is compared to.

About the TR Score

The Tire Reviews Score rates each tire out of 10 from every independent test result and vetted owner review we hold, so two tires can be compared even before a test has run them together.

Who does the testing

Every test published as a Tire Reviews test is run by Jonathan Benson, who has been testing tires independently since 2007.
