Falken EUROWINTER HS02 Pro vs Vredestein Wintrac Pro plus

This head-to-head pits two ultra-high-performance winter tires aimed at fast passenger cars: the Falken Eurowinter HS02 Pro and the Vredestein Wintrac Pro+. Across four independent 2025 tests in 17-19-inch sizes, both target a blend of cold-weather safety and sporty precision, but they take different routes to get there. Vredestein consistently finished higher overall (four of four tests), leaning into wet-road confidence and strong snow braking, while Falken counters with quieter running, lower rolling resistance, and a friendlier price point.

Look closer and clear patterns emerge. Vredestein repeatedly excels in the rain (shorter wet braking, stronger aquaplaning resistance, faster wet handling) and edges Falken in snow braking and traction in most sizes. Falken replies with competitive dry stopping, very good subjective comfort and noise, and often lower energy use-helpful for fuel economy or EV range. The trade-offs revolve around wet-road security versus efficiency and refinement.

Test Results

Independent comparison tire tests are the best source of data to get tire information from, and the good news is there have been four tests which compare both tires directly!

While it might look like the Vredestein Wintrac Pro plus is better than the Falken EUROWINTER HS02 Pro purely based on the higher number of test wins, tires are very complicated objects which means where one tire is better than the other can be more important in real world use.

Let's look at how the two tires compare across multiple tire test categories.

Key Strengths

  • Lower rolling resistance for better fuel/energy economy
  • Quieter and more comfortable ride in multiple tests
  • Competitive dry braking and handling results
  • Often strong value pricing versus premium peers
  • Class-leading wet security: shorter wet braking and stronger aquaplaning resistance
  • Consistently better snow braking and overall snow confidence
  • Sharper wet handling with higher cornering speeds
  • Higher projected mileage and stronger value score in key tests

After my first winter of driving on them I must say I'm pleasantly surprised. It snowed quite a bit here compared to other years and despite the model not reviewing that well in snow conditions, it performed admirably, even in deeper snow. What really impressed me however was its dry and wet performance, it genuinely felt like a summer tire no matter how cold it got.

Conclusion

Across the shared tests, Vredestein is the safer, sportier all-rounder when roads are wet or slushy: shorter wet and snow braking, better aquaplaning margins, and tidier wet handling delivered higher overall rankings every time. Its main downside is efficiency-rolling resistance trends higher, and pricing can feel premium for the performance delivered.

Falken offers strong value with quieter operation, better comfort, and typically lower rolling resistance. It can match or beat Vredestein in dry stops and occasionally in snow traction/handling, but its wet-grip consistency is the weak link, especially in larger SUV sizes where aquaplaning resistance dropped off.

If your winters are predominantly wet and you prioritize braking safety, choose Vredestein. If you value efficiency, comfort, and price while accepting some wet-limit compromises, the Falken is the pragmatic pick. The memorable takeaway: Vredestein buys you margin in the rain; Falken saves you at the pump.
Key Differences
  • Overall rankings: Vredestein finished ahead in all four shared tests (best consistency).
  • Wet performance: Vredestein markedly stronger in wet braking and aquaplaning (e.g., +12.7% shorter wet stop and +14% straight-line aquaplaning speed in 235/50 R19).
  • Snow braking: Vredestein generally stops shorter on snow across sizes.
  • Efficiency: Falken typically has lower rolling resistance (up to ~11% advantage in SUV size).
  • Comfort/noise: Falken is quieter and scored higher in subjective comfort.
  • Durability/value: Vredestein showed higher wear mileage and better value score in the large 18-inch test.

Footnote

This page has been developed using tire industry testing best practices. This means we are only comparing tests which have had both tires in the same test.

Why is this important? Tire testing is heavily affected by things like surface grip levels and surface temperature, which means you can only compare values from the same day. During a tire test external condition changes are calculated into the overall results, but it is not possible to calculate this between tire tests performed on different days or at different locations.

As a result you will see other tests on Tire Reviews which feature both the %s and %s, but as they weren't conducted on the same day, the results are not comparable.

Lots of other websites do this sort of tire comparison, Tire Reviews doesn't.
