2025 EV Tire Test P7 of 8

The Yokohama BluEarth-XT recorded the quietest passing noise in the test (68.7 dB at 50 mph), making it ideal for silent EVs. Its dry performance was reasonable, but wet weather capabilities showed weaknesses, particularly in aquaplaning resistance where it recorded the lowest values. With a projected lifespan of 18,815 miles and high rolling resistance (7.58 kg/t), its range impact was 232 miles. The tire received a "satisfactory" rating for its mixed performance profile.

Performance Analysis

Drawn from 1 tests. Updated October 28, 2026.

The Yokohama BluEarth XT AE61 finished seventh of eight and was rated satisfactory in Auto Bild's 2025 EV Tire Test, in 215/55 R18. Its clearest strength was low external noise, first at 68.7 dB. It also placed third on the wet circle, just 1.8% behind best. Dry handling was fifth and dry braking sixth, with a stopping distance of 36.6 meters, 8.9% longer than the shortest. The tester considered its dry performance reasonable, but it did not turn those two stronger results into a high overall placing.

Standing water was the main concern: it ranked last in both aquaplaning disciplines, 20.5% behind best in a straight line and 14.6% in bends. Wet braking was sixth, 14% longer than best, and comfort seventh, so low passing noise did not mean a comfortable ride. Running costs also counted against it. Projected mileage was second lowest at 30,280 km, while rolling resistance and cost per kilometer were both seventh of eight. Those results point to compromises in efficiency and durability as well as aquaplaning resistance, although they come from a single test rather than a repeated pattern across sizes.
