Performance Analysis

Drawn from 4 tests. Updated October 28, 2026.

The Nokian Snowproof 3P has a strong record for stopping on wet and dry roads, although its overall placings vary. It finished second of nine in the 2026 Sport Auto test and third of six in Al Volante, while Tire Reviews placed it sixth of nine but gave it a Recommended award. Dry braking was first of nine in both the 2026 Tire Reviews and Sport Auto tests, and wet braking was second in three tests. Sport Auto also praised its precise, progressive wet handling, where it was first of nine, and gave it a value recommendation. Snow traction was less convincing, with three bottom-three results, although testers described its snow behavior as safe.

There are exceptions to those patterns. In the 2026 Auto Bild Sportscars test, it finished seventh of 12, with dry braking sixth of 13 and wet braking seventh. More unusually, wet handling was 12th of 13 and drew a safety penalty, contrasting sharply with its pace in the other tests. Dry handling was also last of 13, and testers repeatedly noted a lack of dry-road precision. Snow traction reached fourth of 12 at Auto Bild, despite being last of six at Al Volante. Noise results varied too: Al Volante called it the loudest at both measured speeds, while Auto Bild measured it as the second quietest.

2026 Al Volante Winter Tire Test

Al Volante 235/60 R18

The Nokian Snowproof 3P finished third overall. It is the tire to have when the roads are wet rather than white: strong braking, high aquaplaning resistance and a fast wet lap. On snow it is safe and progressive but not quick, and on dry roads it trades sharpness for security. A good all-rounder with a wet-weather bias.

The BEST Winter Tires for 2026/27

Tire Reviews 205/55 R17 Tested by Tire Reviews Recommended

The Nokian Snowproof 3P finishes sixth and is a solid performer. It was the best in dry braking, essentially tied for the best in wet braking and had good rolling resistance, but surprisingly for Nokian it was not at the very front in the snow testing, and it was a little less precise in the dry than the best. I still recommend it on the strength of its safety, particularly if short stopping distances on dry and wet roads are your priority.

2026 Sport Auto Winter Tire Test

Sport Auto 205/45 R17 Preis-Leistungs-Tipp / sehr gut (Best Value Tip / Very Good)

The Nokian Snowproof 3P finished second overall and picked up sport auto's value recommendation. It is the wet-weather specialist of this group, and for central European winters that are more often cold and wet than white, that is arguably the more useful skill set. You accept a noisier, firmer ride and some rolling resistance to get it.
