2026 Auto Express Winter Tire Test P11 of 11

The Minerva Frostrack HP finished last, and its strengths sit in exactly the wrong places for a winter tire. Two tires that beat it comfortably cost the same or less, so there is no value argument to fall back on.

Performance Analysis

Drawn from 4 tests. Updated October 28, 2026.

The Minerva Frostrack HP repeatedly records long wet braking distances, despite much more competitive dry-road results in its detailed test. Auto Bild ranked wet braking 48th of 55 in 2024, 28.6% longer than the best, and 40th of 57 in its 2022 overview, with a 25.3% deficit. Auto Express 2026 then recorded the longest wet stop at 39.52 meters, 44.2% behind the best, alongside last place in wet handling, 11.7% off the quickest result. It finished last of 11 overall, with the testers criticising wet handling and behavior at the limit.

The same 2026 comparison shows why dry grip alone was insufficient. The measured dry handling result was second of 13 at 57.3 seconds, while dry braking placed fifth at 44.32 meters; the write-up particularly praised those disciplines. Yet all wet measurements were last, including curved aquaplaning, 47.4% below the best, and the testers described every snow result as last among winter tires. Snow braking, traction and handling measured 7.2%, 12.5% and 7% behind the best respectively. Auto Express also found no price advantage over two substantially better alternatives. The record therefore gives a clearer warning about wet-road and winter limitations than support for choosing it on dry performance.
