The Goodyear UltraGrip Ice Arctic is generally stronger on wet and dry roads than in lateral grip on ice and snow within its studded winter class. Wet braking was first of eight in the 2018 Vi Bilagare test and second of eight in 2019, when wet handling and straight-line aquaplaning resistance were also second. Dry braking stayed respectable, third of eight in 2019 and fourth in both 2018 and the 2017 Autocenter test. Efficiency was weaker, with rolling resistance seventh of eight in 2018 and seventh of ten in 2017; the 2019 testers also criticised it.
The 2017 Autocenter result was unusually strong on ice and snow beside the later tests: ice and snow braking were both second of ten, with praise for snow handling. Vi Bilagare instead noted understeer on ice and snow in 2018 and weak lateral stability on both in 2019, when ice and snow handling were each seventh of eight. Its 2019 ice braking was fifth, 25.4% longer than the best. Overall it finished third of ten in 2017, third of eight in 2018 and sixth of eight in 2019. Good road performance therefore coexists with variable winter grip, rather than a consistent advantage in severe conditions.

The Goodyear UltraGrip Ice Arctic is excellent in the snow, strong on ice and good on wet roads. It could only finish mid-pack for dry performance but was still close enough to be an excellent all round tire
