Goodyear Eagle NCT5 Owner Reviews

Review this tire

What owners say summarised from 78 reviews

Tread life is the clearest positive for the Goodyear Eagle NCT5, with 35 favorable mentions against nine complaints, followed by dry grip at 25 against eight. Wet grip is much more divided, with 22 positive comments and 17 criticisms, so rain confidence is not consistent. Around one in five criticise noise and roughly one in seven find the ride uncomfortable, although both aspects also receive praise. Many accounts explicitly concern runflat versions, limiting conclusions about one specification. Repeat reviewers remain broadly steady or favorable, but most reviews have no stated life stage and the follow-ups do not establish a shared ageing pattern.

had these tires on my car allround, and the rears are just coming upto their legal limit and thee were on the car when i bought it, were not brand new then either and ive done 42,000 miles on them.
as for in the wt ive never slid, but do wheelspin a bit if pulling off at lights etc.
as for roadnoise never really noticed, there quiet, compared to some pirelli 6000 tires ive had that were noisy.
would buy again, although believe they have been replaced with the excellence tire, and now production is overseas are they the same standard. i dont know?

I bought the NCT 5's on recommendation from a local garage and I haven't been disaapointed. I don't do much long distance travlling but these tires appears to be good all rounders (even in the recent heavy snow we have had).

I will definately buy again but looking for winters tires at the minute.

Would recommend.

Rear tires lasted 42,000 before replacement and I wish i hadn't listened to the person who persuaded me that Bridgestone were much quieter & better grip ...didn't make a blind bit of difference, except that the Bridgestones wore out inside 30,000.
Front tires have just passed 80,000 miles and 4mm of tread left, but I do 70% of miles straight line at motorway limits.
Incidentally, I have had punctures (and repairs) on both of the front run-flats and they are perfectly fine ...Hi Q is the place to go.

Although I've only had the NCT5s on for a month, they are A LOT better than the awful Dunlop Sp6060 (an indigenous Dunlop made in South Africa)

The NCT5s are noticeably quieter on the freeways and B roads i travel. They are less twitchy and actually have more grip than the Dunlops. My Audi has the 310NM engine, and almost every time i pulled away the ASC light would wink at me with the slippery dunlops. But the Eagles grip better. They are not a performance tire, and the sidewall is realtively soft in comparrison to Conti Sport Contacts i had on a BMW E46. But they are more comfortable. They show no tramlining, offer predictable turn in, and I have only made then squel (momentarily) off the line before the ASC intervened.

But I'm interested in good mielage, comfort, quietness and safe predictable handling. The NCT5 is an old, but proven design. Yes, there are better tires out there, but the NCT5 is a trusted design. Goodyear has apparently stopped making them, in favor of the more technologically advanced Efficient Grip, but they are still available, and I only paid about 65 Pounds (R730) for each. And they 2010 manufactured according to the DOT age.

I could've gone for a harder, noisier more sporty tire, but my Audi is not a sports car. It is my daily commute, where safety, comfort and easy of drive take precidence. That's why i traded the 31b Beemer in for the A4.

Don't buy the Eagle NCT5 if you're an aggressive, 'Hamilton' wannabee. They are for Joe average. Good balance of features, and I've noticed a slight drop in fuel consuption over the Dunlops i had on before. Also more comfortable, and the harsh, often jarring road irregularities, are more absorbent with the NCT5s (I pump the front to 2.5Bar, the rear to 2.4Bar)

One other thing, the NCT5 seems quite good in the Wet, not brilliant, but safe, I went through about 20mm of standing water today at about 100kph, and the car tracked true, with only a little wiggle, and no drama, i noramlly don't blast through standing water, but i couldn't judge how much of there was. Okay,. the tires are only 1000km old, and the tread is still 8mm deep, but they felt composed, and progressive, and never leerly in the wet today.
Quite satisfied, and my Dad, who was a passenger recently, said they felt smoother and more absorbent thanthe GY Excellence he has on an E39 BMW 528. I'll let him drive my Audi Diesel when he remembers to use the clutch to change gears (he drives only AUTOS LOL!)

For a BMW 5 Series Tourer manufacture warranty tire, l am very disappointed in its wear performance. The tread gauge limit indicator is approx 2.8-3.0mm and before l have got to this, probably around the 3.3mm mark l have had 3 tires now in a row tear along the inside wall where it meets the road tread. Steel belt holds out for about 7 miles and then it tears all the way around. From external examination and experience with this tire although it was the 3rd l still could not see warning signs before it tore. On the up, as a run flat l have done 90MPH on a full flat with no loss of grip / security. I will be moving over to Yokahama or Michillen in future.

After installing these tires on my 944, it felt like a new car.
No more road noise and great grip.

These were the factory fitted tires on my Focus and i have to say...i think they are a great tire. The road noise can be a little loud but other than that, it grips well in both wet and the dry and the feedback you get from this tire is reasonably good. They do tend to twitch when you hit a bump or go over slightly uneven road surfaces but they grip through it. Coupled with the ESP traction control system in my car...i have no problems with driving in wet or the dry with these tires! The added bonus is that they are more environmentally friendly than most other tires, as they have a low rolling radius and so you don't need much engine power, helping you to reduce your CO2 emissions. I would recommend this tire if you're looking for a good all rounder.

OEM tires for my Civic 1.8 Sedan. Very noisy in the first place. Activates ABS even on slightest provocation on loose gravel or wet roads. Ride comfort is below average. Seems to last longer than other premium comfort tires. Would never want to buy another.

Initially as a company car, the Fleet Dept had these fitted as standard and advised, as it was my first time with RF's, to stay with Goodyear. A full set in B68 vicinity is ?1100 as a private owner, now.

I am a motorway driver with a sad propensity for driving up my MPG. Over the past 45k have averaged 47mpg.

The tires on the M5/M6/M40/M42 have been quiet and have quite good grip in the dry. Wet is pants, even given very light right foot action. Almost no perceivable noise, even at higher speeds on non-asphalt surfaces.

Tires bought at 87k miles and still look OK at 108k - some signs of ageing though.

A disaster. Wheelspin in the dry and wet. Hopped and skipped in the wet. Ride was terrible, tire noise was high. Tire wear was concentrated on the insides. Replacement costs extortionate. Not suited to the poorly surfaced and potholed roads in UK.
