Performance Analysis

Drawn from 6 tests. Updated October 27, 2026.

Across six independent all-terrain comparisons, the BFGoodrich All Terrain TA KO3 shows a clear pattern: it is repeatedly praised for being easy to live with on rougher surfaces and genuinely capable away from the road, while its limiting factor is grip on the most slippery winter surfaces (ice) and, in several tests, longer braking distances on tarmac. It takes solid overall results when tests reward all-terrain breadth (e.g. 3rd of 7 with a Recommended award in Tire Reviews' 2026 all-terrain mega test; 1st of 3 in the 2025 KO3 vs Bridgestone vs Cooper head-to-head where it was called “the most balanced”), and testers repeatedly highlight strong off-road traction and day-to-day comfort (“superb traction and durability... sand, gravel, and rock”; “class-leading comfort over larger impacts”).

The main exception is when scoring heavily weights pure on-road grip or ice performance. In Tire Reviews' Winter 2025 all-terrain test it was described as “VERY strong... in the snow” (including 1st of 5 in snow traction) but dropped to 4th of 5 overall because it was last on ice braking and ice traction. Likewise, Tire Rack's 2024 on-road all-terrain test praised its steering/road feel (best subjective road score, 1st of 12) but it finished only 7th of 12 due to weak wet and dry grip (e.g. 10th of 12 in wet handling and 10th of 12 in dry braking).

The BEST All Terrain Tires for 2026 Tested and Rated

Tire Reviews 265/70 R17 Tested by Tire Reviews Recommended

The BFGoodrich All Terrain TA KO3 is Recommended. It was strongest where an all-terrain tire should be useful: snow performance stayed close to the leading group, dirt performance was competitive, and the subjective comfort and noise scores were good even though the measured noise result was last. I also found it progressive and safe rather than sharp. The weak points were clear: it was last in dry braking, not strong subjectively in dry handling, and wet handling was some way off the best tires. It suits drivers who want a tough-feeling all-terrain with good snow and dirt ability, but who can accept reduced road sharpness and braking performance.

Which is Best? BFGoodrich All Terrain KO3 vs Bridgestone AT Ascent vs Cooper Stronghold AT

Tire Reviews 275/65 R18 Tested by Tire Reviews

The BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A KO3 occupies the middle ground and, subjectively, does it very well. It combines surprisingly low noise levels and good comfort with a heavy-duty, three-ply sidewall construction that inspires confidence for serious off-road abuse. Its traction and braking off-road are excellent. Wet grip appears to be its weakest area based on available data, and its snow performance may be hampered in icier conditions, but in climates with distinct dry and snow seasons - such as Utah - the KO3's blend of on-road manners, off-road toughness, and winter capability makes it a compelling all-rounder that remains the TireReviews reference all-terrain tire.

The Best All Terrain Tires For Winter 2025 Tested

Tire Reviews 265/70 R17 Tested by Tire Reviews Recommended

In fourth place is the BFgoodrich All Terrain KO3. Now, this is one of those results where score weighting really matters. The KO3 Is a VERY strong tire in the snow, essentially drawing with the Nokian, so if you really don't care about ice it's top 2, and if all you care about is snow traction, it is the best. But with this score weighting, which includes ice as 25% of the overall result, that drops it down in this close group.

BFGoodrich All Terrain KO3 vs Pirelli Scorpion XTM AT

Tire Reviews 285/70 R17 Tested by Tire Reviews

The BFGoodrich KO3 continues the brand’s legacy of being a benchmark in the all-terrain category. It impresses with excellent road manners, combining low noise with class-leading comfort over larger impacts, making it a very easy tire to live with day to day. Off-road, it delivers superb traction and durability across sand, gravel, and rock, with its robust construction shrugging off harsh terrain. However, the KO3’s steering can feel slower to react both on and off-road, and it requires more input to correct when unsettled, which may leave more enthusiastic drivers wanting a touch more precision. Still, it remains a dependable and highly capable all-rounder.
