Hankook Kinergy 4S2 vs Vredestein Quatrac Pro Plus

This head-to-head pits two popular all-season touring options against each other: the Hankook Kinergy 4S2 and the Vredestein Quatrac Pro Plus. Across five shared professional tests from 2023-2025, the Hankook consistently finishes near the top, while the Vredestein trends mid-pack. Both target year-round convenience for passenger cars, but they prioritize different strengths.

The data shows a clear pattern: Hankook delivers broader all-weather capability with notably stronger snow performance, superior aquaplaning resistance, and more precise handling. Vredestein counters with competitive wet braking in select tests, lower rolling resistance on average, and quieter operation-appealing to comfort- and efficiency-minded drivers who face mild winters.

  • Consistently stronger dry handling and shorter dry braking
  • Stable, confidence-inspiring dynamics with solid comfort and value
  • Lower rolling resistance in most tests (efficiency advantage)
  • Quieter exterior noise on average
  • Competitive wet braking in select tests (notably SUV test)
  • Good ride comfort with balanced everyday manners in mild climates

Real World Driver Reviews

Hankook Kinergy 4S2 Driver Reviews

Across 60 reviews, the Hankook Kinergy 4S2 is generally seen as a strong-value all-season tire with standout wet-road confidence and dependable year-round grip for normal driving. Many drivers report reassuring performance in cold rain and acceptable snow capability for an all-season, along with a comfortable ride and good overall balance. The most recurring drawbacks are noticeable road noise (often a hum/whine at motorway speeds), a softer/less precise handling feel when pushed, and mixed reports on longevity with several users experiencing faster wear or wet-grip drop-off as tread gets lower.

Vredestein Quatrac Pro Plus Driver Reviews

Drivers of the Vredestein Quatrac Pro Plus report strong all-season capability with confident wet and snow traction, good high-speed stability, and a quiet, comfortable ride. Many found grip reliable across typical daily and motorway use, including winter trips, with several noting solid performance even in heat. A recurring criticism is a softer sidewall that can feel squishy and reduce steering precision, and a few mention slightly weaker dry cornering limits in hot conditions versus dedicated summer tires. Overall sentiment is notably positive with the negatives being minority concerns.

Best Review for the Vredestein Quatrac Pro Plus
Given 92% 245/45 R18 on a combination of roads for 5,000 average miles
I fitted these tires two months ago and drove them for about 5000 miles on different types of roads, from city traffic to highways. I find the tires to be very quiet, although they came to replace some pretty much worn-out Michelin RFTs so my feeling might be a little biased.
Although I didn't get to drive them in winter temps yet, they seem to stick to the road very well for summer driving. They felt planted at speeds up to 120 mph (didn't take them further than that so can't tell), but a little slippery in corner acceleration on twisty roads, particularly on hot tarmac.

Conclusion

Across five tests, Hankook outperforms Vredestein in overall rankings every time, driven by repeat wins in dry and snow categories and markedly better aquaplaning resistance. Its stable, predictable handling and strong winter aptitude make it a safer all-round choice, especially where temperatures drop or heavy rain is common. The trade-off is modestly higher rolling resistance and occasionally longer wet stops versus Vredestein's best runs.

Vredestein's case rests on efficiency and comfort: it is quieter in multiple tests and usually posts lower rolling resistance, with flashes of strong wet braking. However, its snow grip and dry precision lag, and those compromises keep it behind Hankook for drivers who value dynamic confidence and four-season security. In short: pick Hankook for balanced safety and control in varied climates; pick Vredestein if you prioritize ride hush and fuel economy in milder conditions.
Key Differences
  • Overall outcomes: Hankook places 2nd/2nd/2nd/3rd/6th vs Vredestein 7th/7th/6th/6th/7th in respective tests
  • Snow performance: Hankook wins every snow braking test; broader snow advantage in traction and handling
  • Aquaplaning: Hankook leads straight and curved aquaplaning in 4 of 5 tests (often by 5-17%)
  • Dry capability: Hankook routinely faster in dry handling and shorter dry stops
  • Wet trade-offs: Vredestein occasionally beats Hankook in wet braking; Hankook often quicker in wet handling
  • Efficiency/comfort: Vredestein commonly lower rolling resistance and slightly quieter; Hankook carries higher RR

Footnote

This page has been developed using tire industry testing best practices. This means we are only comparing tests which have had both tires in the same test.

Why is this important? Tire testing is heavily affected by things like surface grip levels and surface temperature, which means you can only compare values from the same day. During a tire test external condition changes are calculated into the overall results, but it is not possible to calculate this between tire tests performed on different days or at different locations.

As a result you will see other tests on Tire Reviews which feature both the %s and %s, but as they weren't conducted on the same day, the results are not comparable.

Lots of other websites do this sort of tire comparison, Tire Reviews doesn't.
