Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6 vs Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S
In the latest large-wheel tests, the Goodyear repeatedly finished ahead overall (2nd vs 5th at Tire Rack; 2nd vs 4th in Sports Cars), underpinned by standout wet handling and aquaplaning resistance. The Michelin still delivers crisp responses, competitive dry times, and excellent comfort, yet shows increasing vulnerability in wet limit behavior and noise versus the newest rivals. Price and running costs also tilt the value equation toward the Goodyear in many sizes.

Test Results
Independent comparison tire tests are the best source of data to get tire information from, and the good news is there have been four tests which compare both tires directly!

Real World Driver Reviews
Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6 Driver Reviews
Drivers rate the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6 very highly overall, most often praising its strong dry and especially wet grip, short braking distances, and predictable/progressive behavior near the limit. Many also report a comfortable, refined ride for a UHP tire with good value versus Michelin/Continental rivals. The main recurring downsides are faster-than-expected tread wear for some users and noticeable roar/rumble on rough asphalt, with a smaller but repeated theme of softer sidewalls or slightly numb turn-in/understeer compared with sharper alternatives.

Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S Driver Reviews
Across 133 reviews, the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S is described as a top-tier max-performance summer tire with standout dry grip, strong wet traction/braking, and high confidence at the limit. Many drivers also report a noticeable improvement in ride comfort (especially versus runflats) and often lower subjective noise, while tread life is frequently considered excellent for the category. The most common downsides are high purchase price and a recurring theme of softer sidewalls/less sharp steering feel or turn-in compared with some rivals, with noise on coarse surfaces noted by a smaller but meaningful group.

I have now had the Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5's, Goodyear Eagle F1 Supersports, Michelin PS4 and even some Avon's (for a brief period) on my current car - a Golf GTI Clubsport 40.
I mix up my driving a lot - lots of motorway driving but also lots of hard street driving and B road blasts, I find it massively important to have the best tires possible to allow me to push my car as hard as I can in a safe manner.
I was massively impressed with the Asymmetric 5's, the sheer grip... Continue reading this review using the link below
Conclusion
If your priority is all-weather security, low noise, and value, choose the Goodyear. If you want a slightly sportier steering feel, strong dry pace, and a cushier ride-and you drive mostly in the dry-the Michelin still satisfies. The practical takeaway: Goodyear for confidence and cost-effectiveness; Michelin for steering character and comfort-first road manners.
Key Differences
- Wet performance: Goodyear consistently faster in wet handling and laps; Michelin can feel edgier at the limit
- Aquaplaning: Goodyear shows higher straight and curved aquaplaning thresholds across tests
- Noise: Goodyear is quieter; Michelin exhibits elevated external noise in multiple evaluations
- Dry performance: Near parity overall-Michelin occasionally edges dry braking/handling; Goodyear often wins subjective dry balance
- Rolling resistance: Michelin leads in some sizes (e.g., 7.8 vs 8.6 kg/t), parity or Goodyear edge elsewhere
- Value: Goodyear frequently cheaper (e.g., 103 vs 181) and finished higher overall in recent tests

Footnote
This page has been developed using tire industry testing best practices. This means we are only comparing tests which have had both tires in the same test.
Why is this important? Tire testing is heavily affected by things like surface grip levels and surface temperature, which means you can only compare values from the same day. During a tire test external condition changes are calculated into the overall results, but it is not possible to calculate this between tire tests performed on different days or at different locations.
As a result you will see other tests on Tire Reviews which feature both the %s and %s, but as they weren't conducted on the same day, the results are not comparable.
Lots of other websites do this sort of tire comparison, Tire Reviews doesn't.
