Bridgestone adds a Potenza Race R above the Potenza Race

Bridgestone has announced the Potenza Race R, a road-legal semi-slick track tire that sits above the existing Potenza Race in its trackday range. It was shown at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering, and arrives first as an original-equipment fitment on the 2026 Lamborghini Revuelto SV. Bridgestone describes it as a bespoke variant developed for that car rather than a general replacement for the Potenza Race, which stays in the range.

Positioning

The Potenza Race launched in 2021 as Bridgestone's road-legal track tire, and the Race R is presented as a more extreme version of it rather than a successor. Bridgestone says the tire combines a motorsport-derived compound with a new, more aggressive tread pattern, and that it remains fully homologated for road use. On the Revuelto SV it is the track option in a three-tire line-up alongside the Potenza Sport for road driving, available with run-flat construction, and the Blizzak LM005 for winter.

Key technical changes

  • A motorsport-derived compound, which Bridgestone says gives faster warm-up and more consistent lap times from the first lap to the last.
  • A new tread pattern the company describes as more aggressive, aimed at dry grip and handling.
  • Road homologation retained, so the tire is street legal despite the semi-slick pattern.
  • Developed using Bridgestone's Virtual Tire Development simulation process, which the company says can cut raw material use and CO2 emissions during the development phase by up to 60 per cent.

Manufacturer performance claims

Bridgestone has not published any figures for the Potenza Race R. The claims so far are qualitative: extreme dry grip, fast warm-up and consistent lap times. There is no independent data on this tire yet.

There is useful context from the tire it builds on. In our own 2025 test, The FASTEST Track Tires In The World Tested, the Bridgestone Potenza Race finished fourth of the four road-legal track tires on outright dry pace, behind the Pirelli P Zero Trofeo RS, the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R and the Vitour Tempesta P1 Plus. It was still recommended, and for a specific reason: it was the best tire in the test in the wet and the most efficient on rolling resistance, which made it the easiest of the four to live with away from the circuit. We also ran it against its stablemates in Bridgestone Potenza Sport vs Potenza Race vs RE-71RS.

That makes the Race R interesting. Dry pace was the Potenza Race's weakest area against its direct rivals, and a harder compound with a more aggressive pattern is the obvious way to address it. Whether it costs the Race its wet-weather advantage is exactly the question a test needs to answer.

Sizes and availability

  • 265/35 ZR20 (99Y) front and 345/30 ZR21 (111Y) rear, the two Revuelto SV fitments.
  • Carries the Lamborghini marking, denoting a car-specific fitment.
  • Manufactured in Italy.
  • No wider size range has been announced. The Potenza Race also began life as a limited fitment before broadening, so more sizes are plausible but not confirmed.

What it means for drivers

For now the Potenza Race R is a Lamborghini fitment rather than something you can order for a track car, and every performance claim attached to it is Bridgestone's own. If it does reach the aftermarket in more sizes it would slot into one of the most competitive categories in tires, against the Trofeo RS and Cup 2 R. We will test how the claims hold up as soon as tires are available.
