BFGoodrich launches the Trail-Terrain T/A+ for 2026
BFGoodrich has announced the Trail-Terrain T/A+, an on-road-biased all-terrain tire for SUVs, crossovers and light trucks that replaces the original Trail-Terrain T/A. The company aims it at drivers who spend most of their time on paved roads but want the look, and the occasional light off-pavement ability, of an all-terrain tire. It arrives as original equipment on the 2026 Rivian R2 and is sold primarily as a replacement fitment.
Positioning
The Trail-Terrain T/A+ sits at the road-focused end of BFGoodrich's Terrain family, below the more aggressive All-Terrain and Mud-Terrain patterns. BFGoodrich lists it as a fit for vehicles such as the Honda Passport, Toyota Tacoma and RAV4, Ford F-150 and Subaru Outback, and the tire carries a Three-Peak Mountain Snowflake (3PMSF) marking for severe-snow use.
Key technical changes
According to BFGoodrich, the main changes over the previous tire are in the compound and the footprint:
- A new all-weather tread compound with a higher silica content, which the company says is the source of the improved wet grip and the 3PMSF rating.
- An optimized footprint shape that BFGoodrich says spreads load more evenly to extend wear.
- Full-depth locking 3D sipes intended to keep the tread blocks stable and wear evenly as the tire ages.
Manufacturer performance claims
All of the following are BFGoodrich's own figures, measured against the original Trail-Terrain T/A and not yet independently verified:
- Up to 25% better wear performance.
- 10% more wet traction.
- Around 5% lower rolling resistance on average, with a claimed gain in fuel efficiency.
- Lower road noise for a quieter on-road ride.
For independent context, the original Trail-Terrain T/A is a snow and off-road performer that gives ground on tarmac. It was the best all-terrain tire in our own 2023/24 all-terrain snow test, winning the snow running by a clear margin within the all-terrain field, and the 2025 ADAC All Terrain Tire Test also rated it the second-best tire in the snow. Its weak point is the very thing the new tire targets: in that same ADAC test it was marked down as the worst tire overall for weak wet and dry braking and grip, and in our own 2022 all-terrain test it trailed the on-road leaders in the wet and dry while starring off-road. BFGoodrich's headline figure for the T/A+ is a 10% gain in wet traction, so the question is whether it can shore up that on-road weakness without losing the snow and off-road strength that defined the original.
Sizes and availability
- 33 replacement sizes are available now, covering common SUV, CUV and light-truck fitments.
- BFGoodrich plans to grow the range to 50 sizes, with a further 17 fitments across 17, 18, 19, 20 and 22 inch wheels to follow.
- The tire is backed by a 65,000-mile warranty and a 60-day satisfaction guarantee.
- Full sizing and pricing are listed on the BFGoodrich product page.
What it means for drivers
On paper the Trail-Terrain T/A+ is an incremental update rather than a clean-sheet design: the same on-road all-terrain brief as before, with a new compound and footprint that BFGoodrich says improve wet grip, wear, efficiency and snow capability. The original was already strong in the snow and off-road but gave up ground to road-focused rivals in the wet and dry, so the most interesting question is whether the new compound can lift that on-road weakness without blunting the snow and off-road ability that set it apart. We will test those claims once the tire is available to buy.
