Michelin Pilot Power 160-60-17-W Honda CB400SF 40,000 miles September 25, 2020
I live in Singapore, a country with a tropical climate and high humidity, and lots of torrential rains. It is a very small island-like country that mostly communes about 30km at a stretch and rarely above 40km in one go. My bike only weighs about 200+kg. Climate usually above 30-degree Celcius all year round. My average speed in the expressways usually around 80km/h to 100km/h. I would say this is a good dry grip tire. The sense of confidence to ride this in dry conditions is high. Tire seems to warm up fast in the dry weather, especially when riding in the mid-afternoon under the scorching equator sun, it feels really sticky. But Michelin Pilot Power 2CT is still a better dry weather tire when compared to these in my opinion. During wet weather, tire performance is still acceptable, and traction is not excellent but still feels safe. But I would still opt for Michelin Road 5 as my prefered rain tires. If Michelin has not invented the Road 5, Pilot Power would be my preferred one-tire-do-all wet/dry tire to use in Singapore.

Climate usually above 30-degree Celcius all year round. My average speed in the expressways usually around 80km/h to 100km/h. During dry conditions, this tire feels just normal, nothing extraordinary. Feel a bit slippery, to be honest. However, once the rain starts pouring, the traction totally drops to zero, performance in wet is worse when compared to Michelin Pilot Power 2CT. The tire feels so slippery, and traction is so bad that to me it is unacceptable. In my opinion, I would rather use Road 5 to be the better one-tire-do-all dry/wet as my choice of tire. I would not recommend this tire at all for use in Singapore. It is not a dangerous tire to use.

Climate usually above 30-degree Celcius all year round. My average speed in the expressways usually around 80km/h to 100km/h. For dry grip when compared to the Pilot Power 2CT, this tire is not as grippy or as comfortable. The sense of confidence to ride this in dry conditions is just normal, nothing impressive. Tire seems to warm up slowly in the dry weather. However, once the rain starts pouring, there seems to be no difference in traction loss at all when compared to Pilot Power 2CT. The tire feels as if I am still riding in dry conditions and it is really so amazing, totally no difference! This tire really gives the confidence and sense of safety. Even during hard braking in the heavy rain, it is astonishing to see the performance is no difference as compared to riding in the dry conditions! Amazing Technology and Innovation from Michelin! This tire is really a miracle, a gift from God! In my opinion, I highly recommend this tire to be the one-tire-do-all dry/wet for all motorbikes in Singapore.

However, once the rain starts pouring, there is a drastic change in traction when compared to riding in dry conditions. The tire feels so slippery, and traction is very bad, at least, in my opinion, not acceptable. In my opinion, I would rather use Pilot Power 1 to be the better one-tire-do-all dry/wet as my choice of tire. I would not recommend this tire at all for use in Singapore. It is not a safe tire to use. Only works in the dry weather.

Where this data comes from

Every rating on this page was submitted by a driver through the review form on this site, naming the car, the tire, the size and the distance covered. Reviews are checked by hand before publication, and the page rebuilds automatically as new ones arrive.

About the TR Score

The Tire Reviews Score rates each tire out of 10 using independent test results and the full body of owner reviews, so you can check a car-specific ranking against the wider evidence.

Who does the testing

Every test published as a Tire Reviews test is run by Jonathan Benson, who has been testing tires independently since 2007.
