2026 AutoBild Track Day Tire Test P2 of 5

The Vitour Tempesta P1 is the surprise of the test. The Chinese-made tire was only one second off the Pirelli on the hot lap and showed strong stability at both axles. It offers good feedback and ran at a similar pace to the Pirelli through most of the long run, though it developed slightly more movement front and rear in the final two laps. In the wet it is quick and secure - close to the Nankang and well ahead of the Pirelli and both Michelins in handling. Wet braking is average for the group. Dry braking performance is strong. The main downsides are its weight, the heaviest set in the test at 56.2 kg, and the slight drop in composure towards the end of longer stints. For the price, it offers a lot of track performance.

Performance Analysis

Drawn from 2 tests. Updated October 28, 2026.

The Vitour Tempesta P1 finished second overall in both track comparisons, with dry braking and sustained dry pace its clearest strengths. Tire Rack 2025 tested the P-01R version in 275/35 R18 and ranked dry braking first of seven at 28.6 meters, subjective dry handling first and long-run pace second, only 0.3% behind the best. Auto Bild 2026 also placed the long-run result second, 0.5% behind the best, and praised stability and feedback. Its measured dry braking was third of seven and hot lap third, despite the write-up describing second-fastest pace.

Wet braking was less competitive: sixth of seven in Tire Rack 2025, 14.1% longer than the best, and fourth of seven in Auto Bild 2026, 10.4% behind. Wet handling differed unusually between the comparisons. Tire Rack recorded sixth place and criticised rear instability and difficult power delivery, while Auto Bild ranked it third and described quick, secure handling. The different sizes and the P-01R designation in 2025 qualify that contrast. Auto Bild also noted more movement at both axles late in the long run and the heaviest set at 56.2 kg. Tire Rack found combining braking, steering and acceleration less natural, and recorded 2-2.5 mm of outer-shoulder wear, which does not establish a road lifespan.

2025 Tire Rack Extreme Performance Track Tire Test

Tire Rack 275/35 R18

The Vitour Tempesta P1 P-01R delivered a firm but cushioned road ride with well-managed noise and progressive steering buildup. Wet track performance was frustrating with razor-sharp but unhelpful steering, a rear prone to stepping out, difficult power delivery, and the longest braking distances with slow recovery. Once dry, it transformed into the fastest tested with strong mid-corner grip, very quick steering, the best dry braking, and excellent corner exit power delivery that rewarded smooth inputs. On the long road course this debut tire was capable but selective—braking was notably strong and lateral traction decent, but combining inputs felt unnatural with front-end push under acceleration if steering wasn't finished. Consistent after the first lap with second-fastest average times despite not feeling the best to drive. Wear showed 2-2.5mm loss on outboard shoulder with noticeable 1mm loss on intermediate ribs.
