The Triangle WinterX TW401 finishes last. It is not the worst tire I have ever tested, but compared to the best it will use a lot more fuel and struggles to get you stopped in almost every condition, and it was last in every snow test even though the snow testing was close. It was the only tire to oversteer in the wet slalom, which is quite a result on a Golf that normally feels so planted. It stayed controllable and I have driven worse, but it is the only tire in this test I would have an issue fitting.

The Triangle WinterX TW401 repeatedly struggles on wet roads. Wet braking was last of eight in Auto Express's 2025 test, 14th of 16 in ADAC's 2024 test and 13th of 15 in AvD's 2026 test, with distances 15.3%, 20.2% and 19.1% longer than best. Tire Reviews also placed it last of nine for wet braking and handling in 2026, noting an unstable rear in the wet slalom. Overall finishes were near the bottom throughout, and AvD rated it not recommended. Projected tread life was second shortest in both ADAC and AvD, while rolling resistance was high in three tests.

Snow braking was a relative strength in ADAC 2024 and Auto Express 2025, placing second and third respectively. Tire Reviews' 2026 last-place snow results were unusually weak beside those earlier findings, although the gaps were small in a field of eight premium rivals. Aquaplaning was especially inconsistent: first in both Auto Express tests in 2025 was unusually good beside 15th of 16 in ADAC 2024 and last of nine in Tire Reviews 2026. Auto Express also recorded third-place dry handling, contrasting with AvD's later criticism of vague steering and hard-to-control dry oversteer. Ride comfort was second of nine in Tire Reviews, but these positives did not resolve its recurring wet-road shortcomings.

Auto Express says the budget Triangle is better than a summer tire in snowy conditions but warns that it is “worryingly poor in the wet” and that buying it “is false economy”. Its snow performance is acceptable, but its weak wet grip and high running‑costs undermine its low purchase price.

The Triangle WinterX TW401 receives a poor rating for driving safety due to its significant weaknesses on wet roads, despite decent performance on dry and snowy surfaces. It offers satisfactory feedback and precision on dry roads, with good control at its limits. However, on wet surfaces, it has a very low grip level and a tendency to understeer or oversteer early, resulting in poor handling. Its braking performance is also only just satisfactory, and its aquaplaning resistance is poor. On snow, it performs well with good braking, traction, and handling. Its environmental performance is average, with a satisfactory lifespan and low abrasion, weight, and fuel consumption, but negative marks for manufacturing residues on new tires.
