Royal Black Royal AS II

Touring All Season Winter rated Tested by Tire Reviews

The Royal Black Royal AS II is a budget all-season tire with low rolling resistance and reasonable snow braking. Repeated weak wet and dry braking, poor aquaplaning resistance and difficult wet handling are substantial compromises.

The BEST All Season Tires For 2026/27 P10 of 10

The Royal Black Royal AS II finishes last. Its second-best rolling resistance was excellent, snow braking was a respectable fifth and comfort was acceptable, so it is not without positive points. The wet performance decides the result: it was last in braking, handling, wet circle, straight aquaplaning, curved aquaplaning and subjective handling, and the gaps were large. It needed almost 12 meters more than the best tire to stop in the wet, while the narrow grip window and slow recovery made it difficult to drive. Budget pricing cannot make that a sensible trade. I would choose a stronger mid-range product or a smaller premium wheel size before accepting this level of wet safety.

Rim Protection
Small

A modest lip. Enough for a slow scrape against a kerb, but it will not save a wheel from a real hit.

Assessed by eye on the tires we tested, in the sizes listed. No manufacturer publishes rim protection as a specification, so treat this as a guide rather than a measurement.

Bought these at a great price on Online for my CRV AWD 235 65 17 set of 4, first time trying All season Tires coming from a set of worn Dunlop SP sportmaxx 050 tires, I think these are very good tires for the price vs the performance they improved driving in snow a lot ,grip was far better than I could have expected minimum wheel spin got me up some tricky hills in fairly deep snow tires really stay soft and supple in below zero temps, MPG the same as my Summer tires. Would buy again only drawback is slightly noisier on dry roads but not unbearably so this could be because they are directional tires with a v shaped tread over all very happy with the purchase and tires exceeded my expectations, not sure why the established brands get away with the prices they charge. I wanted to buy Michelin cross climate tires but the price of nearly £200 per tire fitted was scandalous, this set of Tires cost me £300 fitted £360 vs £800 for CC2s
