The Nexen Winguard winSpike WH62 finished seventh of eight in the 2018 Vi Bilagare Studded Winter Tire Test. Low noise was the testers' only stated positive, while snow and ice grip were the main weaknesses. It ranked last of eight in snow braking, traction and handling, with gaps of 4.1%, 10.9% and 7.7% to the best. Ice results were also last across all three disciplines, with braking 67% behind the best and traction 75.8% behind. The testers singled out its poor ice performance despite its studded construction.
Dry braking was a notable relative positive within this same test: third of eight and only 1% behind the best. That result should be distinguished from the broader criticism of dry-road behavior, for which there are no individual handling measurements here. Wet braking was sixth of eight, 5.8% behind the best, matching the less favorable wet-road verdict. Rolling resistance was around the middle of the field at fourth of eight. This is a single assessment, with a clear noise advantage in the written notes but little support for dependable winter grip against the other tires tested.
