Snow ability and low noise are recurring strengths of the Michelin Latitude Alpin 2 across five SUV winter tests. It won Auto Zeitung's 2018 comparison, placing first of nine in snow handling, second in snow braking and third in snow traction. Auto Bild Allrad also ranked snow handling second of 11 in 2018, and praised snow performance in 2016. Noise placed second in both detailed 2018 comparisons, matching favorable comments in 2014 and 2016. Aquaplaning resistance also drew praise in those earlier tests, although the 2018 straight-line results were fourth of 11 and fifth of nine.
Dry braking and rolling resistance are the repeated compromises. In Auto Bild Allrad 2018 they were both tenth of 11, with dry stopping 27.3% longer than the best; Auto Zeitung ranked both seventh of nine. Wet results vary unusually: Auto Zeitung 2018 recorded the shortest wet stop and quickest wet lap, but Auto Bild Allrad placed both seventh of 11 that year, while the 2014 and 2016 assessments were more qualified about wet grip. Overall finishes ranged from that 2018 win to seventh of ten in Auto Bild Allrad 2018; the 2013 Toroleo comparison placed it second of six and praised wet, ice and snow braking. The strongest recurring case is snow performance and refinement, rather than dry stopping or efficiency.
