2025 Friction and Studded Winter Tire Test P4 of 7Nordic Friction Winter Tires

The Hankook Winter I*Cept IZ3 works reliably on snow and ice, though its ultimate grip is not quite at the level of the best competitors. Its handling is characterized by logical understeer, but the rear tires can lose grip on ice in extreme situations, while on snow it feels confident. On wet asphalt, the steering is precise, but becomes less so on dry surfaces, where its behavior nevertheless remains calm and predictable.

Performance Analysis

Drawn from 1 tests. Updated October 28, 2026.

The Hankook Winter i cept IZ3 finished fourth of seven Nordic friction tires in Tekniikan Maailma's 2025 winter test. Its strongest results were on wet roads: it shared the shortest wet braking distance at 37.5 meters and was second in wet handling, just 0.3% behind the class best. Dry braking was also competitive, third of seven and 1.6% behind the best. The testers praised its precise steering on wet asphalt and found its dry-road behavior calm and predictable, although steering precision diminished in the dry. This is a single-test record, so there is no evidence yet of a pattern across multiple tests.

Snow traction was third in the class, 3.4% behind the best, and the testers said the tire felt confident on snow, with handling characterised by logical understeer. Snow braking was an exception: it ranked seventh, although its 50.4-meter stop was only 1.8% longer than the class best. Ice was the more significant weakness. In the same 2025 Tekniikan Maailma test, ice braking was seventh and 17.3% longer than the best, while ice traction was sixth and 20.6% slower. The testers said the rear tires could lose grip on ice in extreme situations, even though they considered the tire generally reliable on snow and ice.
