Performance Analysis

Continental SportContact 7 - Official Image

Across 20 summer tire tests, the Continental SportContact 7 shows exceptionally consistent “outright performance” credentials, reflected by an average overall finish of 1.7 and multiple victories (including a Tire Reviews 2022 Test Winner and repeated 1st-place results in major UHP/UUHP group tests). Its core pattern is class-leading braking and high grip in both dry and wet conditions, frequently taking 1st in dry braking and very often leading wet braking and wet handling/track-style metrics.

The main recurring compromises are hydroplaning margins (especially curved aquaplaning, but also straight-line aquaplaning in several tests), plus mixed comfort/noise and efficiency/value outcomes depending on test and fitment. While it can still win overall despite these drawbacks (because its braking/handling scores are so strong), it is less consistently “best-in-class” for aquaplaning, rolling resistance and cost/value, and there is one notable outlier test where wet performance dropped sharply (Auto Express 2025: 8th/9 overall).

Performance Strengths
  • Braking Performance (Dry & Wet) Strong
    • 1st place dry braking in 2026 AutoBild Sports Cars (34.2 m, 1/8) and 2026 wet braking (42.4 m, 1/8)
    • 1st place across all core braking/handling metrics in Tire Reviews 2022 (dry braking 1/10, wet braking 1/10) en route to Test Winner
    • 1st place wet braking in 2025 ADAC (28.4 m, 1/18; wet braking concrete 34.2 m, 1/18)
    • Repeated dry-braking wins: 2023 Sport Auto (dry braking 1/11), 2023 AutoBild UHP (dry braking 1/13), 2023 Auto Zeitung (dry braking 1/10), 2025 AutoBild Sports Cars (dry braking 1/8)
  • Dry Grip & Objective Pace (Handling/Lap Time) Strong
    • 1st place dry handling in 2026 AutoBild Sports Cars (108.4 km/h, 1/8) and 2025 AutoBild Sports Cars (110 km/h, 1/8)
    • Tire Reviews 2022 dry handling 52.16 s (1/10) and 2023 Sport Auto dry handling 101.8 km/h (1/11)
    • Consistently near-best even when not 1st: 2025 AutoBild UUHP dry handling 104 km/h (2/7, +0.3% from best) and 2025 Sport Auto UUHP dry handling 129.1 km/h (2/4, +0.2% from best)
  • Wet Grip (Wet Handling/Circle) and Overall Wet Control Strong
    • 1st place wet handling in multiple Sports Cars tests: 2026 AutoBild Sports Cars (78.9 km/h, 1/8), 2025 AutoBild UUHP (78.1 km/h, 1/7), 2025 AutoBild Sports Cars (84.5 km/h, 1/8), 2024 Sports Car test (78.9 km/h, 1/7)
    • Wet circle wins when measured: 2025 AutoBild UUHP wet circle 10.83 s (1/7) and 2024 Sports Car wet circle 10.78 s (1/7)
    • Strong but not always leading wet pace in broader UHP groups: 2023 Sport Auto wet handling 2/11 (+1.4% from best) and 2022 Sport Auto wet circle 2/10 (+1.5% from best)
Performance Weaknesses
  • Aquaplaning Resistance (Straight & Curved) Strong
    • Curved aquaplaning frequently weak: 2025 EVO curved aquaplaning 7/9 (+13% from best), 2025 Auto Express 8/9 (+17.6% from best), 2022 Tire Reviews 8/10 (+15.9% from best)
    • Straight aquaplaning often mid-to-lower: 2026 AutoBild Sports Cars straight aqua 7/8 (+3% from best), 2023 AutoBild UHP straight aqua 9/13 (+3.8% from best), 2022 Tire Reviews straight aqua 8/10 (+3.8% from best)
    • Even in an overall win, aquaplaning can lag: 2025 ADAC curved aquaplaning 12/18 (+17.1% from best)
  • Ride Comfort & Noise Consistency Moderate
    • Comfort can swing from best to worst: 2026 AutoBild Sports Cars subjective comfort 1/8 (8.7 points) vs 2025 AutoBild Sports Cars comfort 8/8 (+25% from best)
    • Noise results include several poor finishes: 2025 AutoBild UUHP noise 7/7 (+3.6% from best) and 2023 Sport Auto noise 11/11 (+5.2% from best)
    • Some tests are strong on refinement, showing inconsistency rather than a universal flaw: 2024 EVO subjective noise 1/7 and 2026 AutoBild Sports Cars noise 2/8 (+1.6% from best)
  • Efficiency, Wear & Value/Price Moderate
    • Rolling resistance frequently mid-pack rather than class-leading: 2026 AutoBild Sports Cars RR 5/8 (+15.7% from best), 2025 AutoBild Sports Cars RR 6/8 (+31.9% from best), 2022 Tire Reviews RR 7/10 (+6.5% from best)
    • ADAC indicates average wear and weak value proposition: wear 9/18 (43,400 km, +41.7% from best) and value 15/18 (+199.8% from best)
    • Price competitiveness often poor in comparative tables: 2022 AutoBild price 8/10 (+104.2% from best) and 2023 AutoBild price 11/13 (+62.5% from best)
  • Wet Performance Variability / Outlier Result Minor
    • Auto Express 2025 overall 8/9 with weak wet scores: wet braking 7/9 (+16.7% from best) and curved aquaplaning 8/9 (+17.6% from best)
    • Other tests still show wet dominance (e.g., 2025 ADAC wet braking 1/18; 2025 AutoBild Sports Cars wet braking/handling 1/8), implying a notable site/conditions sensitivity rather than a constant weakness
