Video: All Season Tires VS Winter Tires

Still not convinced a set of winter tires can really make a difference on snow and ice? This might convince you otherwise. Two identical cars, one fitted with the standard fitment all season tire and one fitted with an aftermarket winter tire. Compared are differences between acceleration, braking and cornering capabilities on a snowy test track with dramatic differences!

Well that's good news! I guess we can drive all along winter harsh roads!

All Season Tires sold in the UK are not fitted as a standard item on new cars.
AST's work best below 7C and are of a different compound to the standard item, having more
"aggresive" shoulders on the tread (for snow for example)
These are not full winter tires but a compromise that you can run year-round and cost only about 10% more.

I'd be interested to know what they mean by 'standard fitment all season tire' as, so far as I know, no cars sold in the UK have what we would understand as all season tires fitted as standard.

Tirerack are a US based company where a lot of vehicles come with "all season tires" (which aren't like our all season tires, but more summer bias)
