The BEST Performance Summer Tires for 2026 Tested! P1 of 8

The new Pirelli P Zero R takes an impressive win overall. I don't really know where to begin with this tire. Best in dry braking, best in dry handling beating the Cup 2, best in wet handling, very close to best in wet braking. It's crazy. If you told me at the start of the test that one tire would beat the Cup 2 in the dry and the same tire would beat the Continental in the wet, I wouldn't have believed you, but here we are. It certainly wasn't the most comfortable and it doesn't have the lowest rolling resistance but I really don't care. This tire is awesome and I would like to fit it to everything I own; which brings me to the biggest issue with it, the size range. I think there's currently only 3 non-OE sizes, so if you are one of the blessed ones, do it, and if you're not, I've been told there are more coming very soon.

Performance Analysis

Drawn from 1 tests. Updated October 28, 2026.

The Pirelli P Zero R won the 2026 Tire Reviews performance summer test in 235/35 R19, finishing first of eight with leading dry and wet handling. Dry braking was shortest at 31.7 meters, while the dry-handling lap of 76.48 seconds and its subjective score both led the field. Wet handling was also fastest at 99.38 seconds with the highest subjective rating, and wet braking was second at 24.89 meters, only 1.4% longer than the best. Testers particularly praised grip and confidence at the handling limits.

The compromises were comfort, efficiency and deep-water performance rather than ordinary wet cornering. Subjective comfort was fifth of eight, and rolling resistance sixth at 9.8 kg/t, 11.4% higher than the lowest. Straight-line aquaplaning was sixth, 2.7% behind the best, while exterior noise was midfield at fourth. These results distinguish strong wet handling from less competitive resistance to standing water. The test supports a tire focused on braking, lap pace and controllability, but it is one comparison in one size, with no wear result to establish durability or long-term running costs.
