Methodology & Configuration
Scoring Process
  1. Collect Test Data: Gather results from professional tire tests across multiple publications. Minimum 1 test(s) required.
  2. Normalize Positions: Convert test positions to percentile scores using exponential weighting (factor: 1.2).
  3. Apply Recency Weighting: More recent tests are weighted higher with a decay rate of 0.95.
  4. Incorporate User Reviews: Factor in user review data (minimum 5 reviews). Weight: 15%.
  5. Bayesian Smoothing: Apply Bayesian prior (score: 7, weight: 1.5) to prevent extreme scores with limited data.
  6. Calculate Final Score: Combine all components using normalization factor of 1.1. Max score with limited data: 9.5.

Questions and Answers for the Pirelli Carrier All Season

Ask a question
July 22, 2020

Is the pirelli carrier all season an asymmetrical tire?

Yes, the carrier all season is an asymmetric tire.
September 19, 2025

How come, in the 2019 van summer tire test, all the tires were weak in the wet but, in the 2020 van all season tire test, the reference summer tire came top in the wet sections? Were the all season tires diabolical in the wet? Do we know what this summer tire was? I'm intrigued. Are there any more recent van tire tests?

Back in 2020 summer tires would generally always out perform all season tires in the wet. The past 5 years have brought some improvements to the all season segment but still a good summer tire will out perform a good all season tire in the wet down to about 5c.
