2026 Tire Rack All-Weather vs Winter Tire Test P3 of 3All Season

The Primacy Tour A/S is a capable warm-weather all-season tire and one of the better performers here in the dry and the wet. It is one of only two tires in this test without the three-peak mountain snowflake marking, and the winter results show why that marking matters: once temperatures drop it has little to offer.

Performance Analysis

Drawn from 2 tests. Updated October 28, 2026.

The Michelin Primacy Tour AS combines short dry braking distances with responsive steering and generally strong wet-road performance. In Tire Rack's 2025 comparison, titled the 2024 All Season and Weather Tire Test, it finished fourth of 11 overall, first in both dry and wet braking, and fourth in wet handling, 1.4% behind the quickest lap. The 2026 Tire Rack All-Weather vs Winter Tire Test placed it third of three in its all-season class, but it still led that class in dry braking and was second in wet braking, 6.8% behind the class best. Both write-ups praise steering response and wet handling.

Winter ability and behavior beyond the grip limit are less convincing. Snow handling was ninth of 11 in the 2025 comparison, 10.9% slower than the best, while the 2026 test placed it second of three all-season tires, 4.8% behind its class leader. Ice braking and acceleration were both last in that three-tire class, with deficits of 14% and 7.6%. Both tests describe an abrupt loss of grip at the limit, with understeer highlighted in 2026. Ride quality received praise, including first in class for subjective comfort in 2026, although that test also criticised persistent road noise.

Tire Rack 215/55 R17

The Michelin Primacy Tour A/S is an excellent tire for three-season driving, offering a firm but composed ride and light, accurate steering. It truly excels in wet conditions, posting the shortest braking distances and feeling agile and responsive. This athletic character continues in the dry, with crisp steering, though the grip can fall off a bit abruptly at the limit. Its main drawback is its winter performance, where it struggles significantly in the snow compared to the competition.
