Michelin Energy Saver+ Owner Reviews

Review this tire

What owners say summarised from 49 reviews

Across reviews, the Michelin Energy Saver Plus is most often praised as a long-lasting, comfortable and quiet touring tire with strong dry grip/braking and good motorway stability, often delivering very high mileage. Many drivers also report good fuel economy/low rolling resistance and consistent performance for everyday driving. The main recurring concern is wet performance: a notable minority describe reduced confidence, longer wet braking and aquaplaning risk, especially in cold/damp conditions or as the tire wears, and some note it can become noisier/feel harsher over time. Overall it's viewed as an excellent eco-touring choice, but not a sporty tire and not the best option if wet grip is the top priority.

I have had these on a the front of a 6n2 tdi 2001 polo with perfect geometry although there is extra camber due to the car being low. Having only been used to budget tires before I have found these excellent.
In the wet they are progressive and have enough grip for me .
Due to money being an issue I have Avon zz5 s on the rear and they cannot compare and on wet days at roundabouts they often decide to let me know by stepping out slightly.
The michelin are at the end of life now and on one of them there is cracking along the tire all around the tread bed but they have not degraded in the grip department.
I am not sure how long they lasted but I think it was quite a while and I will buy the same again.

As an experienced driver with more than 600.000km on my clock, I think I can quite confidently comment on these tires.

As you can see here, https://youtu.be/WyeAZYL5o6c , after 56.000km I don't know of any, if any, other tire would still have 4.5mm of rubber.

I drive in a combination of motorway and country road (not dirt). They grip well on dry roads, are satisfactory on the wet and fare well on aquaplanning.

Mileage is excellent. I almost always get 4.5lt/100km on mixed journeys and 5.8 in pure city driving conditions with heavy traffic.

Never had any problems whatsoever, they give you a feeling of safety and trust.

All this if you drive like a normal human being.......BUT if you're looking for sport driving.......no, they won't satisfy you. Yes, they will keep you safe under all conditions, but for sporty driving, look elsewhere. They weren't made for this type of driving. There is the PS4 for that.

As for the price, it's only 5 euros per set more expensive than all the rest premium brands, so money is no issue here.

I expect to get at least 70.000km before I decide to replace them (if I wait for the TWI to be reached, they should be around 110.000km!!!!) .

All in all, I highly recommend there tires for normal, everyday and a bit spirited driving under all conditions, except pure winter ones.

Thank you Michelin, I know I can entrust you with the safety of my family.

I have used these tires on my Ford Escort 1.4 Hatchback for the past 9 years in South Africa under mostly hot conditions (road temp up to 70 deg Celsius, ambient up to 38 deg Celsius) both on and offroad. Have just had to replace them after 123,000km. The best all-round tire I have ever experienced, and I will never use anything else for everyday use.

Very quiet and comfortable, good braking on wet and dry. Moderate handling. Good fuel economy, very good wear. But sidewalls are very soft and poor. Price is very high.

My favorable review is of the Michelin Energy Saver tire on sale in the UK and Europe, NOT the A/S all-season version for north American markets (where that version receives poor grades). I have driven many rental cars with different brand name tires installed: Michelin Energy Savers have been the best. From cold wet morning weather, to country roads with damp leaves and mud; in town and on motorways; also during dry summer heat; they just roll down the road quietly with excellent grip starting from rest, cornering, and under braking. The simple tread pattern puts rubber on the road without drama, squealing or sliding, although if you expect to encounter snow or mud regularly the CrossClimate would probably be a better choice. For regular motoring in spring, summer, autumn and mild-wet winter conditions, these Michelins are hard to beat. Energy Saver? Without even trying, the Peugeot 208 diesel achieved 67mpgUK = 4.2l/100km, while keeping up with traffic and within speed limits. I did not have the car long enough to comment on their life expectancy but did notice much better ride comfort and handling grip after correcting the air pressures to that recommended by the car manufacturer, instead of the random assortment of pressure readings after picking up the car at the airport.

Had them fitted them in 2013 until 6/2016 had good braking a dry but less in the wet. I did 45000 kms on open road and in town a little soft elasticized comfortable in trip and without noise .

Generally performed well on a car which performed very poorly on cheap infinity tires. No obvious problems, but even with rotation keeping tire wear even, they won't quite hit 30,000 miles before the whole set needs replacing, which isn't great for an undemanding motorway commute.

I've fitted these to both Merc W124 estates I've had, preferring them on the rear, where they last for ages just doing their thing. Although on the front they give a smooth and quiet ride in the dry, the compound seems to give less feel & grip during medium to hard braking, and more prone to aquaplaning in very wet weather than non 'eco' tires. With decently stiff sidewalls they cope with the heavy 6-cylinder Diesel up front, or a full load of people or stuff in the back. On the back I've felt them briefly lose traction turning on wet roads, but I've had good wear with 35k from a set on the rear.
They do seem to damage and/or puncture quite easily, I've had 3 punctures and tread/sidewall damage in the last few years but maybe I've just been unlucky. Definitely not a sporty tire, built for low wear and touring comfort.

I used tires for over 200 kilometers, tires are comfortable in the city but outside of the city they are less comfortable (maybe because is new or low temperature), Grip are Ok. Anyway I prefer the ContiPremiumContact2 because is more comfortable.

I like and have had very good Michelin tires but not Green tires.

Good for a average tire in dry conditions with no problems, but no traction or turn abilites on the wet/rain.

Green and Eco tires no thanks.

Not really suitable unless you are doing high mileages in the dry. I replaced my front pair in 2015 after the outside shoulders started cracking. Apparently safe (asked at two different tire fitters) and passed MOT but obviously past their best. The tires were manufactured in 2012 and had 4mm and 5mm tread remaining. They only wore down 2mm in 20k miles of mixed road driving, including a track day on a VW Golf. I'm not sure if the track day "cooked" the rubber as the front pair developed a different shaded band between the tread and side wall where it started to crack. The rear pair under much less load didn't discolor and are still fine. Handled fine in the dry but were quite weak in the wet, understeering quite quickly on faster A roads. I changed them over for a pair of Continental Premium Contact 5's and the car feels much more positive. Would be a fine tire choice if you do a lot of unstressed miles. Low milers (you'll never wear this tire out in the 5 year recommended precautionary change point) and enthusiasts would best look elsewhere.
