The Kumho Ecsta PA51 finished sixth of seven in the 2020 Tire Reviews UHP All Season Tire Test, in 245/40 R18. Its clearest strengths were quiet running, a low purchase price and enjoyable dry handling. It led subjective noise and placed fourth for timed dry handling at 50.45 s, 1.8% from best. The testers liked its sporty feel at lower speeds, but that did not extend to short stopping distances: dry braking was last at 37.66 m, 7.7% from best.
Wet braking and handling were both sixth of seven, at 20.46 m and 51.07 s, respectively 8.6% and 2.9% from best. Comfort was fifth, with the testers explicitly noting low comfort despite the quietness. Snow traction was a relative positive at second of seven, although 13.8% from best, while snow handling was sixth and 10.5% behind. That split prevents a general claim of strong snow performance. No award is recorded. This single test supports a quiet, affordable tire with some dry-handling appeal, but weaker braking, wet handling and ride comfort than the leading rivals.
