The Hankook Ventus ST has a divided road-test record, with off-road traction a more consistent strength and rolling resistance a recurring weakness. It won the 2018 Auto Bild Allrad All Road test in 265/60 R18, taking 1st of 8 in gravel and grass traction and 2nd in mud traction. Wet braking was 3rd of 8, 1.3% behind the best, wet handling 3rd, 2.1% behind, and straight aquaplaning 2nd, 2.1% behind. The testers praised off-road ability, aquaplaning resistance, wet braking and price, but rolling resistance was last of 8, 23% behind the best.
That win is unusual against the earlier results. The 2013 Auto Review Sports SUV Summer Test in 255/55 R18 placed it last of 11 and described the worst wet grip in the field, poor balance and unpredictable cornering, although sand traction was best. This directly contradicts the favorable 2018 wet-road verdict. Auto Zeitung placed it 6th of 8 in its 2010 4x4 test, also in 255/55 R18, criticising dry performance and rolling resistance. The different years, sizes and fields do not establish why its road results varied so much, so the later win should be read alongside those substantial earlier weaknesses.

2013 Auto Review Sports SUV Summer Test
The Hankook RH06 has the worst wet grip in the test, with wet braking increased by over 33 feet from 50 mph and a poor balance. In the dry the grip is ok, but the tire often has a double stab at the corner leading to unpredictability. Unpleasant and unsafe. Best traction in the sand, but they're the only tire marked M+S in the test.
