2022 Tire Rack Extreme Performance Track Tire Test P7 of 11

The Hankook Ventus R-S4 landed mid-pack, within a few hundredths of three other tires, which is what the testers expected from a tire built for endurance racing rather than outright lap time. It remains a sensible choice where durability matters more than the last tenth.

Performance Analysis

Drawn from 2 tests. Updated October 28, 2026.

The Hankook Ventus RS4 is better supported for endurance and forgiving limit behavior than for the fastest single lap in two track tests, both in 225/45 R17. It was fourth of eight and Recommended in the 2021 Tire Reviews Track Day 200TW Tire Test, with a 89.63 s lap, 1.9% from best. Testers praised heat management, very low wear and progressive handling. In the 2022 Tire Rack Extreme Performance Track Tire Test it was seventh of 11, at 107.55 s and 1.5% from best, close to several rivals.

Tire Rack also emphasised longevity at race pace and a forgiving rear-led balance beyond the limit, supporting the endurance-focused picture. Steering impressions differed, however: the good response praised in 2021 contrasts with an unusually vague feel in the 2022 test, where finding and holding the precise limit cost lap time. Both assessments therefore favor durable, repeatable track use over the last fraction of single-lap pace. These are dry circuit results, without measured wet performance, road comfort or full service-life mileage, so the recommendation is specific to that use.

Tire Reviews 225/45 R17 Tested by Tire Reviews Recommended

The Hankook Ventus RS4 was an enjoyable tire to drive with good steering response and progressive handling, and while it wasn't the fastest tire over a single lap, it's heat management and predicted wear were impressive. With nearly 7mm starting tread depth, it would be an excellent option for endurance racing.
