2026 Tire Rack Streetable Track Tire Test P2 of 3

The Bridgestone Potenza RE 71 RZ was included to bridge two categories, and it justified its place. On outright pace it was the slowest of the three, both over a single lap and across the cool morning session, but it degraded the least of anything in the test and moved up to second once the afternoon heat arrived. Tire Rack found the gap was less about lap time than about feel: the front could be saturated into understeer mid-corner, and away from that the tire tended towards oversteer, so it never felt as securely planted as its rivals. It also gave up the least tread over the day, with the only real wear on the outer edge of the central rib. For a driver who wants one set that can commute as well as lap, it was the most flexible tire here.

Performance Analysis

Drawn from 2 tests. Updated October 28, 2026.

The Bridgestone Potenza RE 71 RZ finished second overall in both 2026 track comparisons, but its single-lap pace was less competitive than those placings suggest. Tire Rack recorded third of three at 99.85s, 0.7% slower than best, while Tire Reviews recorded fourth of five at 101.66s, 3.1% slower. It received a Recommended award in the Tire Reviews test, whose verdict praised warm-up, braking, precise steering and friendly corner exits.

Heat endurance varied unusually between the comparisons. Against dedicated track rivals at Tire Rack, it lost the least pace as temperatures rose, moved to second over the long run at 101s and lost the least tread during the day. Tire Reviews instead found that it held its performance less well than the Nankang CR-S, placing third of four over the long run at 103.32s, 0.8% slower than best. The different fields limit a direct comparison. Both accounts suggest low track wear, but that does not establish road mileage. Tire Rack also found front-axle overload into understeer and a tendency to oversteer elsewhere, leaving it less planted than its rivals. The record supports responsiveness and useful track durability alongside limits in outright pace and consistency of balance.

The BEST Streetable Track Tires in 2026 Tested

Tire Reviews 275/35 R18 Tested by Tire Reviews Recommended

The Bridgestone Potenza RE 71 RZ felt very much as expected: quick, responsive and competitive early in the run. Its steering response was broadly similar to the Nankang CR-S, slightly slower than the Vitour, but still good and precise. In its sweet spot, it had good lateral ability and braking performance, and it felt a little more compliant and friendly on corner exit than the Nankang. Thermally, though, it sat between the Vitour and the Nankang. It lasted longer than the Vitour and did not fall off as sharply, but it did not hold its performance as well as the CR-S. I also noted that it was physically very wide, being the only tire to rub on the rear arch. It looks like it has very low wear. Overall it was a very good tire, but the Nankang had the stronger multi-lap performance.
